T20 - Durham v Birmingham - 20.6.23 - Match thread


Well I'm not overly fussed about the T20, but a few questionable decisions recently.

1 - Bedingham playing for Gateshead Fell on Saturday and playing 2nd XI red ball cricket this week is absolutely bonkers.
2 - Turner massively underused bowling, that last over tonight was absolutely ridiculous.
3 - Parnell isn't interested
4 - People can't blame De Leede tonight
5 - Bring back Muchall.
6 - Roll on the proper stuff on Sunday

Just home, made a decent fight of it in the end. Their two openers started great. 2 difficult defeats to take today. Looking forward to Friday night, hopefully good weather and finish it on a high.
 
Thoroughly enjoyed that tonight. Lots of emotions from being annoyed at a poor Durham score, but some excellent bowling to get us into contention. However the difference in my opinion was their fielding. 2 wickets caught on the rope that for most other teams would have been sixes.

They looked a well drilled team in the field and the dismissal of Robinson off the last ball when everyone thought it was going for six was superb.

The main difference was the fast bowling of Hasan who was brilliant.

Was bit like a football match where we're 3-0 down with ten minutes left somehow manage to score 4 goals then concede 2 in injury time. Such is the nature of T20 I suppose but I think I've known better cricketing days.

Yes,the contrast between the performance of the 2 teams overseas bowlers,and their opening spells in particular.
Or,indeed,contrast between Raine and Parnell's performance.
 
Frustrating end to this campaign. Started so well, now likely need to win last 3 games to have a chance of getting through. Few notes, as others have said, Parnell has been awful. Not had a good game IMO. Just seems to be running in and bowling as quick as he can, no real gameplan. For someone who has played this in various comps all around the world, i expect a bit of variation in his bowling, especially when slower bowlers seem to be harder to get away.

Secondly, the field placing in general (in addition to the bowling) seems just generic. There is the same field to most batters, no real plan of bowling a certain line/length to people and a field to match.

Powerplay, we have deep square leg and 3rd man/fine leg. Yet bowl outside off and nothing straight. Field change to protect the boundary if your bowling outside off. Would be okay if bowling straight to stop the drive.
