Half Season Review - County Championship

So here we are top of the table after 7 games on 118 points, won 4, lost 1, drawn 2. I think someone on the group earlier this week said our average 1st innings score is over 400 which is incredible. I said at the start of the season I have no expectations, my view on last year are very well known and I genuinely thought this year would be a struggle and having known nothing about Campbell, it was hard to be enthusiastic & hopefully, especially after a defeat first game of the season. We have won 4 of the 11 wins in this league so far.

What I've seen since has been absolutely superb from Durham, even the Sussex game had plenty of positives. The group are far more confident, members are far more happier, the brand of cricket is good to watch and the intent/game plan is clear to see. Huge credit to everyone for that.

Stand out performer for me is Robinson, but I also believe Graham Clark deserves a lot of credit. He's a lad who was basically thrown on the scrapheap by Franklin and has been given a new lease of life by Campbell and the rewards so far are incredible. As daft as it sounds, I think we can get more from Lees and Jones, that is in no way a criticism, I went on record 2-3 year ago on here saying I believe Jones will be the next big thing at Durham and I still believe that.

Captaincy much better, it's evident Borthwick is enjoying the role again, and feels more freedom with decision making with no dressing room conflicts, it makes for a happier team which is clear to see by all at the games.

Bowling wise, Ben Raine has been excellent as was Potts. Hopefully we can see Carse and Coughlin return soon as it will give us more options and maybe one of those two could have pushed us to victory this week, but again that isn't criticism of the lads as I feel as though we have bowled well. Conceding far too many extras, but ultimately the league table doesn't lie half way through.

Going forward we just have to keep picking up points, frustrating not to win this game vs Glamorgan but ultimately we have extended our league and that has to be viewed as a massive positive.

I think we need to see more from the younger players in the 2nd XI games, doesn't really seem much standing out at present but others like @The Red Telephone will know more than me on that. Still very high hopes for Bushnell who I think we'll see more of in the 2nd half of the season.

Just an all round happier and confident place at the moment. Very much enjoying this brand of cricket and looking forward to hopefully attending Leicestershire and Yorkshire away in the forthcoming weeks, seems to be a fair few going to Scarborough, the lads need every ounce of support to shout them on.

168 points left to play for Durham. Yorkshire and Derbyshire have played one game less than the rest, so the below is the maximum amount of points each team can achieve this season. 24 points for a win.

My conclusion is this league is pretty poor overall and you only need to be half decent or above average to get out of it. Only Durham have won more than 2 games! Typical 2nd division really. Just like the Championship.

Reckon we'd have won today with kuhnemann.

Yeah totally agree, I thought he looked top class, especially on flat wickets.

Disappointed with Patel tbh this game
Look at the strikes rates, the Stokes & Bazball effect is infectious!

All comes from the coach and captain

Borthwick been outstanding for me

Wasn’t there yesterday mind so can’t comment on his tactics but he’s been class when I’ve seen.

We are a bowler light, and I wasn’t impressed with Miles.

We’d have walked it with Potts.

He was trying everything yesterday, no complaints. It's evident he has more freedom with his choices this season & has the backing of the players.

Borthwick said in his post match interview with Marty that he thought the pitch had improved yesterday.

As has been mentioned, he tried everything, but we were just a bit short in the bowling dept. He even put himself on (only after I’d suggested it on here, mind 😂).

One of those days, but I don’t think there’s one of us who wouldn’t have taken this on Sunday evening.

Really? He was better than expected I thought, given he can't get in the Warks team, and. obviously, he's no replacement for Potts or Carse not sure about Coggers. He did ok as a fill in player.
