Dire Straits v Sam Fender

He’s a nice lad who’s just completely lost control of the narrative. Too late to change it now which is a shame really.

Being really young in the 80s I didn't even know they were a north east band or the lead singer was until way later in life. All I know about Sam fender is he's a massive mag. It's a bit strange bringing football into music the way he has mind. If it's all a pr thing to be a massive jawdie in the hope they'll come to his gigs and buy his music it's worked a treat.

Music used to be about the songs on the record and the characters on the sleeve being mysterious. Now it's knowing every banal detail about the musicians and not being able to recall more than the chorus of one tune and being utterly baffled by the hype and plaudits surrounding them.

No contest

One were successful despite there origins, the other tried to be successful because of their origins

One is a glory seeking bandwagonner, the other is world renowned for their skill and artistry.

F^ck sam
I think he has been steered by his PR folk. He didn’t, to my limited knowledge, push the professional geordie / lifelong Mag spin when he first hit big.
Agree with conclusion of course.

He’s playing a massive gig here in Dublin (and elsewhere). Nobody gives a shit or prob even knows he’s a mag.

He’s just living rent free in a lot of heads on here.
It's canny hard to miss mind, and I don't care either way if he really is a mmf so be it it doesn't bother me oasis and city etc just feels like it's his whole identity now.

Bit of a non debate tbf. Dire Straight are hugely better than Fender on what has been released so far (and I doubt Fender does anything to change that tbh) however playing to a different audience really. Lads done well to get himself big in a time when guitar music is probably at its absolute lowest.

Not particularly a big fan of our but I'd listen to him over shite like Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi without a second though.

I dont disagree with the conclusion but am confused about the source of debate?

Like who is the better vocalist billie joe from green day or h from steps?
You can use technical comparisons to objectively determine what's better.

Whether or not we like/prefer the better vocalist is another and pointless argument (yet we keep falling into that trap for some weird psychological reason.)
