T20 - Notts Outlaws v Durham 8.6.23. Match Thread

Poor performance and you have to question the tactics again why did they not bowl turner. Parnell and Glover offer absolutely nothing.

Why did Turner not bowl and poor shot selection with Turner and Clark club cricket level

Raine has been as bad if not worse last few games than parnell

Sowter bowls 4, he's our biggest threat by far
Parnell is the overseas brought in for power play and death bowling so he has to bowl 4
Ben Raine is our only other main bowler with an econ under 8, so he has to bowl 4, for me

I don't want de Loose bowling 4, so we have to get 8 overs out of him, Trev and Turner, depending on the conditions for bowling and the match situation, because that will allow us to play an extra bat and I think we need one

Sometimes when there are 7 bowling options available the thinking around who bowls gets a bit muddled, imo... too many options. T20 is at heart a simple game, so don't try to over complicate it. Every year we seem to try and cover ourselves by having loads of bowling options and I've seen little evidence of this bringing us success

They must be talking post match about what is working or not

the only reason I can think of is that turner cant bowl more than one or two overs max

his absence was glaring tonight in the bowling

Not necessarily Raine wasn't bowling well
I agree Raine was a bit off the pace but he has a canny bit banked experience in his locker

it was one of those nights and Notts are a top team in this format

I just hope we can win tomorrow and we will be well in the running. I think we need another 4 wins to have a chance to qualify for the knockout round
.

Tough one to take tonight, I feel very much the same as I did in the home game against them - slightly undercooked with the batting and some poor bowling throughout cost us. Everytime we seemed to be getting on top in the game and/or enjoying a good phase of play we did something to give away momentum.

I think overall, we’ve been beaten both times on reputation rather than overall ability because while they’re still a very good side (and we’re still improving and closing the gap) I’ve been quite underwhelmed by them this year. It seems clear to me that for a number of their big guns, their time is coming to an end.

One thing I do feel we must learn from them though is their bowling variation, both by way of the styles of bowler and when they use them. It still seems like we’re too rigid to stick to pre-determined plans of who to bowl when as opposed to adapting on the fly. Trev took a wicket in the first over of the game but didn’t then bowl another in the powerplay. Notts however had no such issue bowling spin early and often.

I’d LOVE to know what the f*ck is going on with Turner too, cause we NEED three spinners. Criminal how little he’s bowled.

It’s clear our biggest weakness is pace bowling - but as I’ve mentioned to the point of being blue in the face, we’ve got three international quality bowlers, plus a usual starter unavailable. Show me any team that can compete in this competition with that problem.

De Leede and Glover simply aren’t good enough in this moment and time to get the job done for us, to the point they’re somewhat of a liability.

Parnell hasn’t played as well as we’d all hoped, but I think that if he was in a side with Potts and Carse, or maybe even Coughlin we’re having a different conversation because he’s posing far more of a threat. It’s probably the same for De Leede to be fair to him, if he’s bowling maybe 2 overs a night and doing a filling in role, he’s probably much more effective but because of the selection issues I’ve already mentioned we’re having to rely more on these lads than we probably wanted to.

We’re improving, let’s not lose sight of how far we’ve come. This is the first T20 campaign since maybe the Albie Morkel season that I’ve been this engaged in. I said after Tuesday that I’d be satisfied with one win from this road double header and my feeling hasn’t changed. Win tomorrow in Leicester and we’re well in the mix.

I’ll say it quietly for now but if we can get into the knockout stages I fancy us to beat anyone, anywhere. ESPECIALLY if we get our pace bowlers fit and available.

That’s a fair summary imo

the Turner mystery definitely need clearing up .

de leede must have gained confidence from his batting tonight and the continued excellence of Sowter is fantastic to watch

tonight we needed 12 overs of spin or slow dobbly stuff . Notts had it and imo won the game

if bits and maybes but you are right, the whole outlook would have changed with coffers and carse available in batting and bowling

those two with raine, Sowter, Parnell and trev

thats a decent attack if they mixed and matched depending on the surface

Interesting to see De Leede bat higher up with a bit of time to get in, played some lovely shots, looks to me like he has been asked to perform a role that he is not suited to, bat and ball

His bowling is just decent length, which will be an asset in the CC but its just predictable.

I dont rate Glover and find that a strange signing, I dont see the benefit of playin him ahead of Robinson, or Kileen or whoever

I agree with the majority, I feel like we have a lot of the bowling changes pre planned, certain match ups and who bowls when, rather than reacting to what is going on out there.

Had a good tournament, but there are times we have the squeeze on, then just completely let the pressure off by bringing back pace when we have more spin to go
unsure on Parnell, we need more runs from him, partly why he was signed
Not necessarily Raine wasn't bowling well

His figures were no better but I thought he was bowling better to the eye.

We should play Robinson ahead of glover and use turner more we would be 20 better off probably

Aye, why was Robinson dropped? he is lively, unless they are saving him for Sunday. Glover just was not needed as a signing like, no offence to the bloke, but we are well stocked with young bowlers who can fill in when players are injured/international etc
