Bid rejected for Clarke

I think we have to accept that with PL status Burnley are going to be seen as more attractive at this point in time. Thats life. But I think, bar Luton and Sheff Utd, any other PL team is going to have more appeal.
perhaps all 3 will go straight back down and we pass Burnley going up 🤣 Clarke will be devastated.

Burnley fan forum seem to think its wrapped up ... but its solely based on a post here saying that we are convinced its done ... supposedly based on a post there blah blah blah. It would be laughable if not for the deja vu with Neil to Stoke. They also seem to think that £10m is a good but essentially reasonable deal and are asking in which world is Clarke worth £20m+ - they seem to forget it was in this world that a 30 yr old plank of wood named Chris was sold by them to Newcastle ... that world. They also think he might be decent back up to Zaroury. But Clarke to Burnley at that price makes little sense. He has three years on his contract, he seems happy here and has said so, he has developed a lot by playing in a team that allows him to play his game, there is little competition for places. Although nothing is certain, the expectation is that by the end of next season he will have developed again as a player if he stays. I don't think there is much doubt that Clarke will go on to better things and will be sold at some point, he is going to be too good for an unfashionable yo-yo club like us (who exactly do Burnley think they are?) - but next year will be the crunch point. He should be a better player and with just 2 years left on his contract the leverage the club has is reaching that tipping point.

However even if we are looking to sell now then there also appears to be competition for him including from teams like Brentford. Whilst Burnley's (current) premier league status is a distinct advantage over us what positives do they have compared to Brentford? - a London based team with an established foothold in the PL, pushing for Europe and with a reputation for playing the type of football that would suit Clarke. Meanwhile bookies have Burnley at 30% to come straight back down. I just don't see why on earth Burnley would be a preferred destination from his perspective even if we were minded to sell.

He’s done well to wrap it up from Florida like.

If we did sell Clarke for something like £10m I think supporters are going to very quickly lose patience with our 'model'. It doesn't make any sense at all for us to sell for such a small profit, considering Tottenham will get a lot of it. I know we haven't sold him yet but generally when the players agent starts going to the media and talking about his contract it means one thing. Replacing the goals and assists of Diallo and Clarke is some ask, supporters won't be impressed if Clarke is sold.

Agree with all of that ... except the bit about the agent going to the media ... it did feel like they were trying to send a very different signal than the usual agent agitation.

Their board is now arguing that you need 4 yrs in the PL being the best english player in your position to be worth over £18m If that is their perspective great - they should be off to Man City to try and tempt Grealish away with a cheeky £20m bid.

Think it's likely a mix of people who still aren't fully caught up with how inflated fees are now and people who may have only seen Clarke every now and then, wonder if it'd be the same on here if we'd went up and were quoted 20m for a player

Lad over on 606 saying he been told Clarke to Burnley nigh on complete....
Mate of mine who’s a Burnley season ticket holder messaged me tonight saying the same thing. I asked who told him he said (verbatim)

“It’s second hand from someone I go to games with, who has a mate who lives up Sunderland way. I genuinely dunno how credible he is, but that’s what was passed on to me”

Sounds like this fella from Sunderland has a lot to answer for

Messagebaords including this one are hilarious man.

In what world does jack Clarke, burgeoning reputation on the back of a quality season for a play off team, with offers from other more established premier league clubs go to burnley to be back up for a player with not as good output as Clarke in a team that effectively dominated the league 🤣🤣
Given the rumoured sell on clause for spurs unless we are getting a fee that gives us a significant profit then there is no point i letting him go (clearly he might want to leave).

Burnleys rumoured offer is nowhere near his value.

Premier football.
Wage rise.
Signing on fee.

Burnley also isn't that far from his home town of Harrogate.

He will fancy this move imo.
Isn't his home town York (Heworth to be precise)? And as a Yorkie with relatives in Ncl and works a bit in Manchester its a lot easier to go up country than across.

Two different Burnley fans have told me it’s done and after digging it all goes back to that single post.

No fucker in Sunderland knows if it’s done. Our club don’t leak stuff. It’s nonsense
