Bid rejected for Clarke

Absolutely no way we got him for £2m without the deal being back loaded i.e a massive sell on %. Levy isn’t stupid enough to let a player he paid £10m for just £2m flat.

Unless he wants to go there’s nothing to be gained by selling him. If Speakman is serious about a top 2 push, you’re not going to replace a player with 24 goal contributions unless you spend £15-£20m and those players aren’t going to sign for a championship club.

Really hope he stays, great lad, great player and pivotal to us having a proper go next year.
With respect, let's look at some of the lads who shone in this league last year, who provided good goal contributions.

Gyokeres - signed for a £1 million
N'Diaye - free
Morris - less than £2 million

3 yrs left in his deal, no real need to sell, lad has had a quality season…..we hold all the cards here, if he does go it will be on our terms, so any interested parties better dig deep

The player can still effectively force a move though mate. Of course the club can negotiate the fee, but no club really wants an unhappy player

Oh aye I agree, depends on how confident he his of repeating last season with us as if he does it won’t be the likes of palace and burnley after him….hard decision as the wages on offer and testing yourself at the top level must be tempting

So what would you say Roberts is worth? How much did we pay for him?
I dont think Roberts is that valuable. Great to watch but his output isn't hugely successful.

Clarke had the most goals and assists combinations in the whole league outside of strikers. A similar goal output from Keane Lewis Potter at Hull got him a move for nearly £20m and they're about the same age.

Burnley fan forum seem to think its wrapped up ... but its solely based on a post here saying that we are convinced its done ... supposedly based on a post there blah blah blah. It would be laughable if not for the deja vu with Neil to Stoke. They also seem to think that £10m is a good but essentially reasonable deal and are asking in which world is Clarke worth £20m+ - they seem to forget it was in this world that a 30 yr old plank of wood named Chris was sold by them to Newcastle ... that world. They also think he might be decent back up to Zaroury. But Clarke to Burnley at that price makes little sense. He has three years on his contract, he seems happy here and has said so, he has developed a lot by playing in a team that allows him to play his game, there is little competition for places. Although nothing is certain, the expectation is that by the end of next season he will have developed again as a player if he stays. I don't think there is much doubt that Clarke will go on to better things and will be sold at some point, he is going to be too good for an unfashionable yo-yo club like us (who exactly do Burnley think they are?) - but next year will be the crunch point. He should be a better player and with just 2 years left on his contract the leverage the club has is reaching that tipping point.

However even if we are looking to sell now then there also appears to be competition for him including from teams like Brentford. Whilst Burnley's (current) premier league status is a distinct advantage over us what positives do they have compared to Brentford? - a London based team with an established foothold in the PL, pushing for Europe and with a reputation for playing the type of football that would suit Clarke. Meanwhile bookies have Burnley at 30% to come straight back down. I just don't see why on earth Burnley would be a preferred destination from his perspective even if we were minded to sell.

Can't help but feel Burnley be a backwards step for him
