Leach

I’m just being obtuse

Ps it’s Brook ;)
And I forgot brook in my XI

whoops

crawley
ducky
pope
root
brook
stokes
bairstow
robinson
broad
wood or woakes
anderson

Woakes would cover stokes bowling allocation if selected. If not then it’s down to Stokes bowling potentially 15 overs in the day

Think Curran gets you that variety to an extent, the left arm option is worth something

If Stokes was fully fit I’d go Ahmed, but I don’t think you can if he’s not

Yeah that’s why Curran over Woakes for me. I think Curran could be a top 6 batsman if he played like 2 or 3 years CC, which will never happen.

I agree on the last bit yeah, stokes will bowl this series but it won’t be loads so I just think that rules out Ahmed and jacks for me,

Jacks did bowl lot of overs for surrey last year but how much better is he than root, not loads.

It’s not easy, the more I think the more Dawson makes more sense, perhaps the least inspiring idea but I think he could bowl and I don’t think he’d be phased.

Stokes will always tell you that he'll be ready to bowl in the first test. I don't know why because he looks crocked to me, but he'll still tell you that
I had a knee injury like his and when you try and play , it’s agony and puts you back for a while, you can feel ok but once a jarring or twist happens it really takes a toll

it’s been reported he has had injections so they are just covering the pain and not resolving the issue really

I wonder if it was not the Ashes, if he would have been out for the summer getting it sorted .

that jarring motion he did yesterday on a catch was clear to see the pain shooting through his knee area

Ah the unfortunate twist where you reach for the double decker and pack of biscuits

:(

There was a time when I was young

pace , power and a little bit of skill.

it’s around 40 years ago but it did happen

spent six month of physio to get my knee back . Injured in September after scoring then hyper extenstion , back the following March and scored twice on the comeback

today paying the price though and you are right, if I twist or stretch it goes numb

Doesn’t mean he’s saying that to his coach tho, they’ll know what they are doing, no point giving the Aussies more info than they need
my point is that they may very well pick Rehan because Stokes will always be sure that he'll be able to bowl when required
speaking of crocked.... is Bairstow still limping?

I think they are going to pick woakes on home ground as an all rounder as I just can’t see Stokes bowling in the first test and if he does, it will be a very short spell

I think they will go in with root as the spin option and four seamers

the three who played at Lords , it will be interesting to see if any are retained .

it looks clear that they think wood, Robinson and Anderson are nailed on

that’s leaves one out of Broad, Tongue and Potts to play

crawley
ducky
pope
root
stokes
bairstow
woakes
robinson
wood
broad
anderson

You’ve gone a bowler too many there, leaving out Brook

Missed that.

I suppose the risk as well is playing all of Wood, Robinson and Anderson in the same game as all 3 have questions over their fitness at the minute.
Agreed. It all hinges on what Stokes can bowl

I’m not overly concerned about spin in this first test at Edgbaston

To be honest only Old Trafford and the Oval usually take spin. It’s seam and swing at Headingly and Edgbaston and I except Lords to be flat as usual.

That’s how I read it

We need to win this first test and I feel it’s the pace bowlers that will win it

Also wickets 6 to 11 , which team scores more
