Bid rejected for Clarke

As i say be interesting to see our replacement for our first big sale

Makes me think the lad from chile would be clarkes replacement considering the runoured fee

Not that i know a thing about him mind!

I think that’ll be the test this year. Last season was a bit of a free hit so signings like Bennette, Michut and Ba could play without (relative) expectation.

This season will be different as expectation has risen and people will want progress on last term. With no Amad and uncertainty over Clarke and Stewart, any recruits will have to be more ready made than players like Bennette, Ba and Michut.

Hopefully we see new contacts for Clarke and Stewart and don’t have to worry too much about this!

He’s a talented boy and was quite obviously one of our best performers but I think he’s a way to go before being a consistent top flight player. His decision making at times can be iffy and at times he gets caught in possession in his own half (often attempting to do the right thing but not executing it). Those things can be far more costly in the top flight.

All that said, there is clear top flight interest and if we’re offered a fee over £10m the club will have to consider it and if suitors are even thinking about the types of sums being offered then Clarke will have to consider it.

Progression wise, I think he’d benefit from another season at this level and maturing a bit before having another crack at the top flight (ideally with us!) but I’d be surprised if thats what the outcome will be.
£10m is shockingly low when you look at the likes of Gordon. With the length of contract we’ll get double that or it’s got to be worth holding him. Doesnt seems he the type to shout for a move.

Gordon’s fee had a Saudi premium attached to it. He’s also a very talented player (I know that’s unpopular on here because of who signed him).

Clarke has also had a failed top flight move on his CV already so clubs will be more skeptical coughing up mega money. We should hold out for more than £10m but realistically I don’t think we’ll get much more than that.

If he was playing fir a Premier league team the bidding would start at 40/50 million.
If we sell him he will be playing Premier League.
We should be asking for £40m.
Btw I’d rather we kept him.👍

Totally agree but he’s never ever going to be guaranteed to start every week at any Prem club next season I wouldnt have thought.

Lets remember as fantastic as he is, He’s going from playing up against some stiff divis at times to the likes of Kyle Walker and Wan Bissaka so he wouldnt be afforded the time to be given game after game. He’d have to hit the ground running from the off which isnt easy.

The money will surely be tempting but I honestly think he’s best placed to stay with us for at least another season and be the main man week in week out.
I agree and would use Sancho as a prime example - brilliant at dortmund - wrong move - wrong time - wrong club - it may have destroyed his career
Aye. I love the lad, my favourite current player. But I don’t begrudge him should he go, as long as it is an improvement and not just a financial one.
My advice would be wait another year - keep playing and developing - he has years to earn big money and he will
This. Obviously if someone comes in and offers daft money then will be difficult for the lad, but he’s at a club where he seems to be enjoying life. Hope we get him for at least another season. For some reason I actually think he might stay rather than take the cash and a bench…
see answer above - i think he has the world at his feet if he keeps playing -

He has already had a bad move. I do hope we can keep him another year at least and he now knows he needs to be playing week in week out.

Brentford paid 20 million for Potter and Clark is coming off a better season as well.
Exactly, some on here are desperate to see us sell.Patto has already said he isnt wanting to go,Clarke is over the moon to be here close to home.Roberts said he has found his home,Ballard has said similar. So I think its possible that we wont make a big money sale or purchase. We have to remember that we have kids waiting their chance Jewi,Ba,Lihadji, and our own kids who ran Man city to the final game for the title ahead of Man utd,Liverpool,Newcastle etc.

Thought Clark was great for us last season, but he really struggled against one or two championship full backs. I’m not sure how many clubs would chuck upwards of £20m in for him. Hope he stays personally
