Leach

I think it’s fair to say he is better bowler mate.

But yeah can’t really compare a fast bowler and a spinner

So I know what you saying we don’t have many other spinners so I agree a loss.

Just don’t think as big a loss as some do just my opinion.

I have been on record before saying I am not a particular fan on his, so am going to suddenly change that view and make out it is a disaster he is not there, although like I say I agree a loss

I think Leach in the side mainly because of the fact we don’t have many other spinners like you say, not because he a match winning spinner.
Good post agree 100%. Very balanced appraisal unlike the one sided stuff some are posting

Need a spinner in there in addition to Root.

Look at the workload Lyon takes on.

I’d be having the chat with Moeen Ali like. He’s good pals with McCullum so you never know.

livingstone was in the squad for pakistan before injury, he bowls leg spin

the kid Rehan played in Pakistan

Dom Bess

Jacks

Parkinson has been in the squad in the past

there’s five possibles

None of them would inspire me (for all I know, like). Not against the cheats, anyway.

I really don’t think any other spinner will be brought in. I think it will be a four man seam with stokes and root to bowl about ten overs a day between then

We need a front line spinner. How many times have Australia played without one?

Might be best option mate, depending on wickers like.
Agreed. Would think Edgbaston is seam friendly in the first test

it really also depends on how many overs we will get out of Stokes. If he was capable of 15, then I could see wood, Broad, Robinson and Anderson being rotated , one left out each test, and then the potential of the kid Rehan being used or even livingstone as a wild card

the way stokes moved in the field in this test worried me a bit and I cant see him bowling very much

there’s also to be taken into account , we very rarely bowl 90 overs in a day so that may allow for more seam over spin anyway

All to be seen but this is not all doom and gloom imo. We have options

Most important doesn’t mean best, he bowls loads of overs so the seamers can rest. We don’t have a replacement
We have a few options though

bring in woakes and go all seam with stokes and root to bowl a bit

bring in the likes of jacks , Rehan, livingstone, and back them , lets say, like Crawley and bowl them as a front line option

leach would have been the Aussies number one target this summer, you never know, this injury could save him from that and lengthen his career on comeback

If they play another seamer it will be Broad, I think Potts would be ahead of selection over Woakes. Root is a better spinner than Jacks or Livingstone I don’t see the point in playing either of them but it’s up to Stokes. Just need someone who can hold an end

Not getting into a massive argument mate.

Just have a different view from you on the effectiveness of Leach if that ok?

However I do agree with you he has been improving and getting better this last year under Stokes and McCullum.

That’s the beauty of them two, they have this canny knack of getting all the talent out of players and getting them playing better

Haha fair enough aye sorry
