Gender reveal "party"

So what if it is though. It’s part of young peoples way of life these days and some people use it for good. I would never begrudge younguns a day of enjoyment. It’s an exciting time for them and nowt wrong with celebrating that.
Exactly.
They're not doing any harm, just wanting to celebrate and share something that's exciting in their lives.

How does this work then? Does someone from the hospital inform a member of the family who then orders said colour balloon?

Not knowing and seeing my Daughter for the first time was the (equal) best moment of my life - as I regularly tell her, it's not every day you beat Man Utd at Old Traffird to get to a Wembley final
In this cased , yes . The sister in law knows the sex and is sorting out the appropriate balloon or whatever . The parents to be are in the dark as to what they will reveal

Been invited to our friend's pregnant daughter's gender reveal do today at 2pm and am dreading it . Never been to one of these in my 62 years on this planet and dont know any one who has so no idea what it entails (apart from and exploding balloon or something filled with blue or pink confetti)

Cant really back out so the plan is to be cordial and smile a lot , offer congratulations when appropriate and exit said do at earliest possible opportunity
Assuming a gender! The poor thing hasn't even had time to decide itself.

To be fair, I agree with you. It sounds horrendous, but this is the age of self publicity and pharming for likes.

I think that's a shame - that the parents aren't the first to know. Each to their own though and whatever makes them happy

Sadly in life sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do for people you care about. Be it this or a funeral or similar

Attention seeking and fishing for compliments are not good personality traits. That's the "so what"
You don’t even know these people. Taken on face value it’s just two young people sharing an important moment in their lives. I’m really not sure why people are so down about other people enjoying themselves. I bet half the folk slagging them off do some absolutely ridiculous things they wouldn’t dare admit to on here

Stay until you get fed and watered then make a quiet, strategic withdrawal.

If the point was just a get together then aye how could anybody be down about that? But we all know the real point is to post the video of the reveal on social media.

How are you going to ask an unborn baby what its gender is? Surely it's a sex reveal party.

I feel your pain - it's narcissistic shit. I hope this is the outcome so at least you have a story to tell the lads at work tomorrow.

Sounds like an absolute nightmare of an afternoon in a garden, having a drink with a buffet. The whole day would be marred by momentarily stopping a conversation about the cost of replacing tyres too find out the sex of a loved ones unborn child.
The invite states it's a Gender Reveal, not sex reveal. See, the thickest in society have these things.

You’re off your chops getting that worked up over people enjoying themselves

I don't know them, that's correct.

But revealing a gender is not a reason in itself to celebrate unless you live in a dystopian reality were one gender is to be celebrated above the other.

Conceiving and then giving birth are the reasons to celebrate. Baptism or other ceremony if religious. Revealing a gender? No

It’s something they’ve decided to share with their friends and family so for them it is something to celebrate. They’re obviously chuffed and want to share it.

Just shows they’re really excited about having a child and enjoy being happy. I really can’t see what’s so bad about it. Why not go and just enjoy yourself. It’s a nice day And good to see folk being kind to one another.
This. Yea it’s another Americanism creeping in but not one of the worst imo. Hurting no one.

Like I asserted, for their own personal attention seeking. Each to their own. As you say, they are not doing anything wrong.

Personally I was chuffed to be becoming a parent no matter the gender. I didn't consider having a party where everyone looked at me and my wife to reveal said gender.

Aye but you’re an old bloke and tbh you seem quite a misery
