T20 :: Durham v Lancashire

Doubt I'll be bothering on Tuesday then. The wife and nephew certainly won't be attending. Potentially saves a lot of faff rushing up after work also. Ridiculous that the club can accommodate them but not members and general public
Good point. I work over near Newcastle uni so I have to leg it to the match because I finish at 4:30. They’ll no doubt forget to tell us it’s the student night too…

I still remember coming to the one a couple of years back when there was bus after bus after bus. They filled the tire left half of the country Durham and trapdoor stands

The club are very good at not making people aware despite a few year ago claiming they wouldn't do the student night again, they continue to do so. It'll be a late decision for me (see if I can be arsed after work) but if word gets out plenty will not bother. That said the club won't be arsed as they'll make a lot of money off the students. The club roll the red carpet out for them.

That was the night during Covid social distancing when they took the piss and the club said they wouldn't be doing it again. Club put out tannoy announcements asking the general public to spread out due to social distancing as we were sitting too close, yet when we asked to go upstairs to the county Durham upper (all empty) the stewards stopped us as it was all allocated for the students. We left very early that night (we were dropping off in Washington before the game ended), loads left early also car park was busy getting out. We were under all kinds of rules and regulations for the county championship games (don't sit on end seats etc) yet they rocked up for a T20 and took the piss

Will there be a pre match presentation for the University Challenge champions 🤔🏆
🤢

Exactly I remember the Stewards being really harsh about masks etc but they let the students take the piss
Who are we hoping to see play today if they rotate new players in?

I remember they collared our lass (slow walker, walking stick) at a county game literally they ran over to her as she wasn't wearing a mask whilst walking round near the old scoreboard.... Few days later these lot are taking the piss unchallenged. Fair to say the club had absolutely no authority with that sort of thing after that and the stewards knew it which was a tad embarrassing/unfortunate for the usual red ball game day stewards as on the whole they are great but knew the club had lost a lot of respect over it all. They didn't dare challenge anyone at the county games. They admitted they got it wrong, which fair play they replied (they received a lot of complaints) but I guess they need the money and were always going to accommodate them again.

What a joke. I remember they were yelling at stokes too and trying to piss him off (big mistake given his previous…)

The university event in 2021 was a joke. I suspect the club have learned from this, and hemming the students in to the central part of the trapdoor stand is part of this.

I suppose the club might argue that in addition to the extra revenue on the night, they might get enough of them interested in coming again in the future or even becoming members in years to come.

I can see that as an angle but the fact that they sell it as a party, blasting music and downing beers shows that cricket isn’t the reason they’re going. They have no interest

That's right they never stopped. Ultimately all down to money, same with the knackers I mentioned the other night who pay £20 a ticket then miss most of the game spending £30 on drink.

Truth be told not many do have an interest in the T20 they just go for the drink. I'd say 80% of the block I was sat in on Friday weren't interested in the game. All about £££ though

Very true to be honest. It’s the fact that on the student night they fence off half the ground and I have to walk even further for a piss 😂 bogs are grim on the county Durham stand like

That was another issue we once had. Wife on her sticks, quickest way out to the car for her was via the back of the trapdoor stand... External stewards refused to let her through, fortunately a few "daft lads" dealt with it :lol:. Such a needless hassle. (Cant remember if this was a student night though). The men had to walk a canny distance for a piss that COVID student night though.

Agree there, yesterday on the everything you need to know part. They have said members are not welcome near the students. Also disabled parking suspended in that area to accommodate the students.

Also the student after game disco kicks off at 9. Let’s hope the games doesn’t go down the final few balls in that case.

We welcome fans to Seat Unique Riverside tomorrow for a Tuesday night of T20 cricket under the lights as we welcome Northamptonshire Steelbacks to Chester le Street.

Tomorrow evening we will host students from universities across the North East for a special student event. The students will be based in the DAFABET stand, with this stand strictly out of use for members of the public. Due to this gate 5 will be out of use for this game only.

As the students are using the whole area behind the DAFABET stand, disabled members parking will be outside the ground for this game. The disabled members holding parking passes will be given priority at the front of car park 2 (opposite Gate 4).

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of attending the fixture or watching from home!

Transfer the disco to the Klute nightclub 😉
