Durham 2nd xi T20

I’m not sure there’s a role/space for him in the side as it’s currently constructed to be honest.
Agreed at the moment. I'm still open minded about the Doneathy slot in the team. I said the other day i felt it's a toss up between Doneathy and Glover but then you could throw Borthwick, Mcadlindon and Bushnell in also. Nice to have a few selection options I guess. Me personally I'd leave it as it is for Friday.
Only Borthwick put his hand up today imo. Bushnell and Maclinden hinted at a return to form. They need to consolidate at 2nd level at present. Thrust back into Blast could really shatter what must be shallow confidence.
Totally get that especially Bushnell who for me was messed around loads last year as was Mcadlindon in the T20. Much needed positive boost for them today which can only be a good thing.

The Doneathy inclusion as a batsman only is really odd. In the Notts game for example it wouldn’t have hurt to bowl him for atleast one over when De Leede was going around the park. Same sentiment in either of the first two games in place of Glover too I’d say. It’s why I can’t see a place for Bushnell, we know he’s a handy change of pace option, but given the bowling rotations so far in the games we’ve played I just can’t see them using him in that way.

Obviously as the tournament wears on it may be that Doneathy (and A.N. Other) gets more of an opportunity to bowl.

I do feel like it’s a bit of a wasted spot in the team at the moment, which is absolutely no slight against Doneathy, but I wonder if the role they’ve asked Doneathy to play is to be a guy who can come in and clear the rope with the bat from ball one. We’ve got our pretty definitive top and middle order and we’ve got our obvious bowling attack - maybe he’s just the lad who is in to attempt to cause carnage if and when he’s required.

Completely mystified as to the role of Doneathy. Whatever it is YoU'd expect when he's selected for the 2nd he's be given both batting and bowling opportunities yet he bats down the order and isn't given any bowling. The lad needs to find some Dutch ancestry that he can claim 😀

I thought Bushnell would’ve featured more up to this point like, more so in the red ball team. Clark’s resurgence is probably the main thing that has worked against him, because I don’t see any other slot in that team for him unless more seam bowling injuries occur and he comes in as the fourth seamer - but that would mean going to a predominant 3 seamer, 1 spinner route and having Bushnell doing a filling in job.

As for McAlindon, I thought he was very very raw last year. He looked sharp the times I saw him but far too wayward for first class cricket. Still plenty of time for him and another full year of Second XI and club cricket won’t do him any harm in my opinion.

Like I say, I feel like he’s just filling a slot, it doesn’t appear he’s a big part of the batting or bowling options but of course we have to play with 11 men

Again, that’s no critique of him in terms of his ability, I just don’t think his role has been properly defined yet.

Agree with this assessment. In the second game today we saw both sides of him. The first two overs he bowled were a mixture of wides, no balls and getting hit all over but his final two bowled at the end with the two Lancashire batsmen well established were tight and full of genuine pace.

The Doneathy mystery continued - coming in low down the order and getting a second ball duck then not bowling a ball when Lancashire replied.

You'd have thought Ben Raine with the second fastest ton by an Englishman in T20 might be a better fit
