How did it go so wrong for Leicester?


well the owners were bailing them out every year. Which dried up during Covid

to get cash flow they had to borrow loans against the TV money which has now buggered them
 
2-1 up versus Everton at home......Maddison steps up and misses penalty to make it 3-1 right on the stroke of half time.....game ended 2-2......a 3 point swing on Everton that would have doomed Everton

To be fair you could have said the same about Burnley this time last year who then sold Pope and McNeil for decent fees and reinvested. Could easily see Leicester doing similar with Maddison, Barnes and a few others. Tieleman and Evans out of contract so losing a couple of big wages there. With Vardy's age his contract looks more and more like a mistake financially but he may still do alright in the Championship.

He went to Everton, didn't last very long at that basket case of a club. Leicester replaced him with Lee Congerton so should we just shut down this line of questioning there? ;)

This. I recall Barry Glendinning, on Guardian podcast, at least 6 months ago saying he thought Leicester would be in trouble.
Seems they didn’t realise this till March.

It took him a bit longer than expected to unravel the place, but it came eventually.
 
Was it just their heads being turned or are the likes of Tielemans, Soyuncu and Maddison really overrated?

I’ve never been overly impressed by them. Not to the extent they get bigged up anyways.

Harvey Barnes is probably the only player who can hold his head up this season.

He stood out as dreadful from the moment they signed him. They've tried him in just about every position as well. Rancid player.

I think Maddison's a good footballer, but at the wrong end of the pitch for a relegation battle.

Soyoncu's barely played this season. Seemed alright when they first signed him.

Their wage bill is way too high and the owners income was hit hard during Covid.

There are going to be a lot of players leaving. And it’s going to be the better players who go.
 
Forest and Derby are bigger clubs than Leicester in my opinion. That said I'd absolutely love to have had their history from 96/97 onwards.
