Championship next season

It's been getting worse and worse for years, yet still the same cliches are trotted out.

Luton Town just finished third and got promoted. Sunderland, first season back after promotion, completely decimated by injuries in both defence and attack, still made the playoffs.

It's highly entertaining and one of the best leagues around, but in terms of quality it's bang average.

West Brom will also need to sell as they are in the dog dirt financially
Southampton looked the best equipped team and I think they will win it next year
Apparently appointed Russell Martin, who had Swansea in great form towards the end of the season.

Good shout for them to win the league.

Three teams coming down will be heavy favourites to go back up, us, Cov, Boro, Ipswich, Millwall in with a shout

Why? Leicester have big financial problems so will have to sell. Leeds look awful and have no manager. We saw this year that it's over rated. And if Sheff Wed are anything to go by the promoted teams look average. I think maybe Ipswich may do ok.
I think in terms of the clubs really. No idea how the teams will line up, it just looks a cracking line up.

On the flip side I take your point. I would say Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton etc all deserve to be in the Prem and they are good teams, without necessarily having a formidable history.

Just great to see us lining up against fantastic clubs I think
A really strong line up in terms of traditional big clubs but the fact that Luton will be playing Premier League football next season shows just how poor it is quality wise.

Pleased that Speakman has said that promotion is the aim for us next season.
Yeah that’s right… agree

The thing with the Championship is there's often not much difference between the top sides and bottom sides.

So success is all down to consistency and finding ways how to get wins and draws even when having under par performances.
On their day EVERY team in the Championship is tough to beat, so deserve respect.

Great post

That Sheff Wed side isn’t much to fear. Oldest squad in L1 and virtually no money to spend

Leicester, Leeds and Ipswich will all be strong though
Will Leeds be able to defend ? Looked clueless all season. The championship will give them even less time on the ball .The best of Leeds team will be away.

I was chatting to my West Brom mate yesterday who’s an ex Baggie himself and now a scout so usually has a good view of what’s going on. He thinks they’ll be lucky to get top half next season as purse strings getting cut and minimal investment in signings even if they sell players.

I think Southampton could be the strongest of the relegated teams if they appoint the right manager and I think Martin would be a good appointment. They won’t have the turnover of Leicester and Leeds and have players such as Armstrong and Aribo who are very good at this level.

Another vote for Saints to do well. I think they are closest to a yo yo model of just not good enough for premier but too good for championship. After that i have no bloody idea.

Teams don’t spend big now. Before Covid everyone was spending bucket loads.
When we went down from the Champ last time it was ridiculous.

Villa spent nearly 20 million on a fat 29 year-old Ross McCormack. Clubs like Derby and Sheff Wed all blew bucketloads too.

It will be stronger than last year but it feels like every second team is under an embargo, threatened with deductions, or putting out expectation managing statements like West Brom have
They have been decent in L1 and they do have a big budget, so will definitely spend
Where has this big budget come from after 2 years in league 1
