Nobody has a clue how much we have to spend, I wouldn't have thought they'd be throwing say 80% of our budget at this deal for example.

I’m not saying that, it’s all hypothetical as we don’t have a clue.

I’m just answering him as to why some people might care how much a transfer fee is in general.

So we can't mention the word free now in relation to a manager or signing because it's implying the owner is tight?

Did you miss the posts where I praised them for the wage budget being so good in relation to turnover? Or am I not allowed that opinion?

I think people's main concern is that it is very likely to be a significant part of the budget spent on a player who, at present, hasn't really shown much to suggest he will get into our side.

He's not a first team regular in a side who finished 17th in the Championship last season.

Now we don't know the structure of the deal etc, but it's a fair concern based on the information we have at present IMO.

90% of teams in this division won't spent £3m in total.
 
Potential upside of this is big. 17 year old and still needs to fill out a bit, which he could feasibly do over the summer and be ready for more championship appearances after his tastes this season. All for it.

As I've said I know who his big brother is, that he has played a few times for Birmingham and is rated to be slightly behind his brother in terms of development but with huge potential

He's 17 so the potential is there for it to be a great deal. But, as you say, if it's a sizeable chunk of our first team budget going on a 17 year old who probably isn't first team ready (at least for a full season) then it's a short term risk.

I guess what we don't know is what our budget is, or how the £3m is shaped. If it's £1m+2m on promotion, then it's much better
