Is Stokes is fit enough to be an all rounder is the biggest concern to me. It makes a massive difference to the balance and quality of the team if he is a specialist batsmen at 6 in the order and can't bowl.

Nobody ever suggested dropping Root or Stokes
A lot of suggestion was the below baring in mind Crawley has 16/25 innings in England he's scored 17 runs or less so Pope effectively opening anyway.
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Bairstow
Stokes
Foakes

No, is the short answer. Is Stokes is fit enough to be an all rounder is the biggest concern to me. It makes a massive difference to the balance and quality of the team if he is a specialist batsmen at 6 in the order and can't bowl.
Just realised this is a 4 day test as well![]()
Bbc article on the foakes debate showed that since 2016, cricinfo stats show him as the best wicketkeeper in the world to have played 10 tests or more and that his contributions (guessing catches, stumpings etc) to the team were worth 10 runs an innings more than Bairstow as WK.
Bairstow does have the higher catch rate at 88% to Foakes 81% mind.
So we've got an opener averaging less than 30
A number 3 who averages 16 in his 2nd innings
A number 4 whos batted once in 3 months
A number 5 whos out of nick
A number 6 who is injured, not batted for 6 weeks and potentially cant bowl
A number 7 who scored his best at 5 and is now with the gloves recovering from a broken leg
A reserve batter who averages 33 this season as well
Apart from that, batting lineup looks solid, im sure Cummins and co are very worried
If its definitely a no then i fancy the Aussies quute strongly.Just realised this is a 4 day test as well![]()

Good, every post you've done on this thread has been nothing but complaining about people's opinion. We’ve just won 10 out of 12 tests with some of the best cricket we have ever played, breaking nearly every record in the process.
And this is the negativity people are posting?
I wish I never signed up! Think I’ll stick to the Durham threads!
Did you not watch England play over the last year?
Flat and fast pitches doesnt seem like the way to go now with Archer and Stone outIf its definitely a no then i fancy the Aussies quute strongly.

No but i dont fancy us against Cummins Hazelwood Borland and Green on seaming wickets.Flat and fast pitches doesnt seem like the way to go now with Archer and Stone out
If Robinson is playing the next match you'd hope we have Potts for Gloucs.Potts England call-up could totally kybosh our promotion push.
I agree, with a full choice of bowlers to pick from i was expecting a close series but now the Aussie attack has the more threat regardless of pitch surface (nibble/flat, fast/slow).No but i dont fancy us against Cummins Hazelwood Borland and Green on seaming wickets.
Broad hasnt looked all that this year tbf, i could see Potts playing the AshesIf Robinson is playing the next match you'd hope we have Potts for Gloucs.
Then we don't play again until the 11th June and then the 25th. So hopefully by then we'll know if Potts is even needed for England.
Surely the order of preference is Anderson Robinson Broad Wood Woakes Potts anyway
Catches more, but his record since 2016 with the gloves is not great, his renaissance has come as a specialised batter.Just had a look at the stats and Bairstow has a better dismissals per innings average than Foakes (2.021 v 1.657) which suggests Bairstow is the better option even before looking at the test batting averages. (37.04 v 32.2) My only concern is whether Bairstow is fully fit.You must be logged on to see external links
Brook has had one of the best starts in test cricket history he's got massive credit in the bankWonder how stokes' knee is doing.
Otherwise, no surprises.
Shame for Foulks, did nothing wrong, but Bairstow is first. That's the way it goes sometimes.
If Brooks doesn't find form then he'll be looking over his shoulder.
If the rope Crawley has is anything go by, then Brook is good till 2025Brook has had one of the best starts in test cricket history he's got massive credit in the bank
Fuck sakeFuck it. Hope the Irish stuff 'em.
