Would this team beat the Mags?

The derby will never be the same and is forever lost. As far as I am concerned NUFC as a club died when the Saudis took over, where your club is just a project for sports washing.

Whilst SAFC will look to develop young up and coming talent through the academy, NUFC will just pay over the odds for ready made talent. It will all be fake success bought with blood money.
This…….

Telling a mag that just fuels their sense of superiority.

We all know the derby will still matter to loads of our fans and saying it doesn't is just a coping mechanism. I remember the excuses the gravy stained were using during the 6 in a row era.

Imagine taking the time to write all that on a rival's forum!
Absolutely terrified that we might, just might be on the verge of being able to compete with you again. Rattled and biting like fuck!

To be fair to him, I think the last paragraph is spot on.

We are enjoying some good results but we have a team that just got 6th on the last day. Ok injuries have played a large part, but also look at the squad. A lot of them were playing League One last season. We have struggled in some games. We had a 3 game spell no so long ago where we got beat by Rotherham, Coventry then absolutely stuffed to Stoke. The only Premier League team we have played was in the cup where we drew and got beat.

We have pointed out Sheff United and Burnley being so far ahead because they had recent PL experience and parachute payments. If that is the gap to the top two in the Championship, what is the gap to the Premier League? Are those two going to tear the league apart or be happy to survive on goal difference on the last day?

What a ride this season has been. Just wanting to survive, getting off to a great start, losing our manager, bringing a new one in, had the players we could not cope without injured, still being in and around the play-offs, falling away, clawing our way back at the last. We now stand 90 minutes off Wembley with a 2-1 advantage. It has been fantastic with twists and turns, but the gap to the Premier League is huge and we are just not there yet.

We need a lot of work just to survive. Like any team we might get the odd win against a team in the top half when nobody expects it. But lets be honest, without a number of major additions, if we go up we are in for a long hard season of disappointment.

As other have suggested here it doesn't matter if you can win a derby or not because if you lose Sunderland fans will claim it is not a level playing field so the result does not count/does not matter, and in doing so have convinced themselves that it is a no-lose scenario for Sunderland. Of course should you scrape together a win it will claimed it as the biggest underdog victory since David vs Goliath.

The more interesting question (and the one I eagerly await seeing answered) is how will you do against all the other Premier League teams?

I have been reliably informed on this forum that this season the PL is terrible and NUFC are only 3rd because of a combination of luck and everyone else being crap. Of course this is not true, the only team that is really significantly underachieving is Chelsea. Citeh continue to be Citeh, Arsenal and Man U are both having their best season in years. Liverpool started badly but look strong again now, Spurs are as consistently inconsistent as ever. And now there is NUFC, Brighton and Villa who can compete with these teams. So the fact is the PL is in fact more competitive then ever before.

I am pretty sure that if Sunderland get promoted this season the standard of the PL will have miraculously improved over the summer and next season no one will be saying the PL is crap because it become impossible to make that argument when you are getting hammered by Brentford (yet another good team)

The reality is you are not just far behind Newcastle, you are far behind all the teams in the PL and need at least about 8 players to have any hope of staying in the PL. The choice that the club will be faced with will be either doing what Forest did and bringing in lots of players in a gamble to stay in the PL, or playing safe thereby virtually ensuring relegation.
Why are there only 2 choices. What a load of Saudi brainwashed shite

It will be an interesting derby.Morally, the whole world( bar saudi arabia)will be willing us to beat their shitty club. 2 different styles of play n'all. Us, young ,exciting, attacking football, against timewasting arseholes with a cowardly manager and gobshite brainwashed fans.

All I can say is that the OP needs to give his head a shake if he thinks this team would beat the Mags.

Dear deluded....this was a piss take!

We have stumbled into the playoffs and are miles away from a team in third place in the Prem!! For perspective in our best ever prem seasons we won 16 and 15 games - they have won 18 with two games to go. We scored 57 and 46 - they have scored 63 with two games to go.

At the end of the day, the bookies would have us big favourites but as the cliché goes, football isn't played on paper.

Anything can happen in 90 minutes.

No one really expected for Brighton to do what they did yesterday, the bookies had them at 4-1.

Anyway it's a moot point if you don't win the next 2 games.

You are mental. You are saying the only options are to spend big and do well, or not spend and go down. What a sportswashed nonce sympathiser you are
Except tons of you own fans agree with my and talk about it regularly. I did not say it is impossible that you would stay up without significant investment but of course it is not likely, do you seriously think differently? As usual instead of discussing anything sensibly (eg what you think you should do next season if promoted) you just go for usual predictable responses. I am not sure you are capable of rational debate.

You’ve done well this season there’s no disputing that…. However the league has been lifting , even a sensible Mag would agree. Be telling if you can replicate it next season

The rest of the league being “lifting” isn’t our problem. I’d say it’s ultra competitive and quite a few teams have stepped up their game , Brighton, Villa to name 2 others . Chelsea have spent a lot of money but been mis managed .Spurs nothing special , Liverpool coming good, Man Utd are nothing special just 3 “names “ that folk seem to think have a right to be top 6 . Maybe they do but under performing is their problem , we have had a tremendous season regardless of where we finish . Qualification for Europe was maybe an aim from day 1 of this season and we have achieved it so job done , rest is a massive bonus “if” achieved.

I don't think it would take significant investment. This Prem is the poorest I can remember with Palace downwards all being much of a muchness. The fact that this Everton side may stay up supports this - they are bloody shite. Also, the fact that the mag team are 3rd also supports this notion. City are on another level then a handful of decent teams (mags included) and then some dross.
