This man (John Harrison) is the guru of allotment veg growing in my opinion.
I have his book, and this website is 1st class.

Got my plot all cleared and vegetable plots dug in. Bit quicker than I expected so main crop potatoes, beetroot and carrots have gone in today. Leeks and onions tomorrow.
Fuck me.
Well done mate
From what you described, I am absolutely amazed you've got to this point.
Hope this goes well for you mate.👍👍👍
Are you putting onion sets and seedling leeks in?

Yep. Carrots and beetroots were seedlings. Bought main crop seed potatoes. I’ll post some photos when I work out how to it.
Hopefully that works.

Finally got the new greenhouse finished last week.

Toughened glass in this one which is a lot heavier than the last one. Already been tested with the wind and survived no bother.

My 1st early spuds are just showing through now.
Tomatoes are doing great, along with peppers, chilli's, aubergines, gherkins and cucumbers.
Runner beans doing well in pots, soon be ready to go in the ground.

Got a mini plastic greenhouse in my study, and a middle shelf has a full roll of LEDS wrapped round, so the shelf underneath gets the light. Seems to be canny to start seeds off so far. Peas and Toms doing quite well.

But got a billion fungus gnats. Got yellow strips up which aren't making much difference. Trying to keep the seed trays dry on the top, but of course needs to be damp to get the seeds away.
Just put a bowl of apple cider vinegar with fairy liquid in it, in there.

Any other tips?

Looks like the one I’ve ordered for me ma which has just arrived today. Have you bolted it to the slabs on the ground?

I haven’t yet but will get round to it. Saying that, it’s an absolute ton weight so it may not need it tbh. It’s a halls popular 10x6. Good quality.

How long before you normally harvest 1st earlies?

Mine are still in a bag in the shed. It was so wet and had a lot of late frosts here that I've had a late start to the year. Only just got the main crop in at the weekend and haven't even got my parsnip seeds in. They are usually end of March. I've only done early once. I put them in a bed that was going to have squashes in and would go out later, giving me time to harvest, clear and plant the seedlings from the greenhouse. The seeds are already sprouting away so I might have missed my opportunity.

Only did spuds the first year I started growing to break up the crappy soil I had.
Limited on space, so don't bother anymore.

Hope that helps mate🤣🤣🤣

I put the 1st earlies in the grow sacks around St. Patricks day.
Agree with the cold, so that has put them back a touch - so I fully expect to have a crop at the end of June.

Cheers. I think mine are too late for the veg bed if I want to get other stuff in. I have big tubs for Charlotte potatoes. I might just buy more compost than I need this year and grow in those bags, save the seed potatoes going to waste.

Charlottes are great in tubs.
Get them in marra.
Something quite poetic about putting spuds in on St Patricks Day.😁
A date etched in the mind for spuds
