Probably been done on here before but…

If you asked anyone around the country what they thought the song was they would say its a NUFC song. Unfortunately they've hijacked it among many other north east things.

Nah, that’s bollocks like. People would link it to Newcastle (the place) generally, Geordies also perhaps and in a wider sense the North East.

It’s a folk song, not a football song. There are plenty people who would call themselves Geordies who support Sunderland. If you ask most people not from the area, large numbers think that we’re all Geordies anyway. That goes for you in Seaham and me in Durham.
Ask anyone on the street and I can guarantee you the answer they’d give you.

And no as it’s sang by various clubs around the world.

Depends where you are, what the street is, I’ve travelled all over the country for work and wherever I go people call me a Geordie. Yet I’m not, so as I said above, in those instances most people would associate it as Geordie, yet it’s a Durham folk song - are they wrong? Or right?

Durham don’t win many.

Three time County Champions 🤷‍♂️
Not immaturity at all, I’m an owld un,I can’t help it I just don’t like it.
It’s their fuckin anthem.

You’re coming across very much like that mag knacker off the Two Tribes programme from years ago

“won’t eat bacon cos it’s red”
“the north east begins and ends at that river”
Hopefully Pools put sugar in their pre-match tea tonight and Saturday 😉🫖

It’ll have to be the half time tea :o
Do you think I would act like an idiot Football supporter at a cricket match?
Gerra fuckin grip.

You’re acting like an idiot football supporter on a cricket forum 🤷‍♂️

:lol::lol: if that means Durham winning more games, I'm glad of the "compliment". Get yourself down the ground and vent your immaturity at the players. Go down the last session and it will only cost you a fiver to do it.

Just to pick a point on that, last session should be free to enter i think, think youd get a few more casuals popping down after work thursday friday, or getting a better crowd in when a game is close, Loads of other Counties do it

It's strongly associated with the city of Newcastle not Durham so has the feel of 'let's pick a motivating local song people have heard of'. There's probably nothing similar they could have used but it always stirs the pedant in me. 😆
Blaydon is historically Durham so the Northumberland mob from North of the Tyne have nicked it
It's a song about a charabanc trip from Balmbras Music Hall in Newcastle Cloth Market to the Blaydon Races, which were held on an island in the Tyne which was neither Northumberland nor Durham and therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Constables of those counties and rife with illegal betting.

I thought it was around the area on which the Stella Haugh power station was built which was on the Blaydon (Durham) side of the river (pretty much opposite the Newburn Bridge). Is there a map that shows the island where it was held?

Maybe the mods should sticky this. If we have the season we are all hoping for, this debate will continue every week.

And frankly, it’s pointless as I can’t see any way the team are going to stop singing it after all these years.
