Boro thread

We're not desperate for you to hate us, the reason many Boro fans hate Sunderland is because we have had to endure your fans calling us paedos whenever we've played each other, and singing "we hate Boro".

If fans of any other club behaved the same way we would hate them.

Brum fans sang the classic "Sunluns a shithole I wanna go home" and threw smoke bombs at us yesterday. Do we hate them? Not particularly

That's interesting because I've got family on Teesside (Billingham) all Boro fans that hate Sunderland. They've never mentioned the chants you've spoke of (which I also think are grim). Every Boro fan I've met, hate Sunderland and deride us in the same way Newcastle fans do, like a bizarre superiority complex over us.
It’s true mate, they were sung, Boro fans don’t hate Sunderland like Newcastle and Sunderland hate each other...that is on another level all together..

I don't think we will get to the play offs, but bloody hell if we do, the other teams would be shutting themselves playing against us! We have looked the better team against Boro, Millwall, Luton etc.....only really Coventry that I would write off!

Oh aye, I know they've been sung. Its more I've never heard Boro fans use it as a excuse to hate us.

I think many Boro fans of a certain age will hate Sunderland because of all the trouble between our fans back in the 70's and 80's. Some of the stories I've been told are crazy.

I'm not old enough to remember that but personally the paedo chants have always been big factor as to why I've always hated Sunderland.

And in the last six we are in better form than you and in the last two we are in better form than you, where does it end.

You are not the form or third best team in the league
Well, you're the one who went on about being in better form over the last six games, I merely pointed out that over the last five games is actually Boro in the better form.
It's irrelevant anyway.
If we finish third then we'll be third best team in league.
Don't see what point you're trying to make.

It's one of the most generic chants going these days. Burnley fans were singing it at us recently.

Sunderland are the only supporters who sing "we hate Boro", I don't think even Newcastle fans sang it.

I think its a minority and mostly when we play you. I definitely dont hate Boro and I think most would say the same.

Literally the first time ive heard of paedo chants tbh

Surely you should be happy with that? It makes you almost relevant. The other 90 clubs in the league just say 'who'?

Lets be honest, unless you are from Boro, you are completely off the radar for almost every football fan in the country. The mags sing about us while competing to get into the Champions League. You should be grateful we are at least in a very small way, keeping you on the radar ;) .

Fair enough, I"d probably feel the same if the shoe was on the other foot. I don't like Boro from many very unwelcome visits at The Riverside over the years. I class it as a rivalry rather than a derby but that's been done to death.

My point was that you lot think you’re the third best team in the league, you’re not the table shows that. Teeside Steve started throwing in about Carrick not being in charge all season and that we need “context”.

I mentioned that Edwards hasn’t been in charge of Luton all season either and they’re above you.

The wheels have come off a bit for you over the past few games but you lot seem to be in denial of that.

Luton are the third best team in the league over 42 games and the best team in the league over 10 games that is just a fact.

I think a lot of your fans are just disregarding them as it’s Luton, we can all quote stats, you lost to Burnley at home we were the first team to stop them scoring this season at Turfmoor.

I don’t think it’s going to be as easy in the play offs as some of your more arrogant (and I exclude you from this) fans think.

Aye, this is why you struggled to get out of League One if I remember rightly. Everyone you faced treated it as their cup final 🤣

I think that’s a bit disingenuous

Not sure why you think we will have a squad full of PL wages? the loans maybe will be on a decent whack (but they aren't PL first teamers and not big names) other than that??

Smith, Fry, Lenihan, Hackney, Howson, etc.

Archer we are paying % of his wages - he can't get in Villa team and is a youth academy product, Akpom wont be on premier league wages, we bought him from a Greek team and Forss was a Brentford reserve. He isn't coming on huge money.

Warnock literally came in with the remit of getting rid of the high earners years ago - Gestede, Assombalonga etc.

I'm in no way saying we have a low wage bill for the championship but sorry, I think you are way off with the PL wage bit.

Akprom was a 3m signing he will be on 30k a week minimum

Same with likes of Archer and Forrs.

That's 90k a week on 3 players approx 5m a season and your revenue is really low

Yeah you make some good points, but I'm not sure about the 'wheels coming off' to be honest.
We've had a great run since Carrick came in and I'm pretty sure WE were the form team in the championship for a while, but (imo) it was always gonna be a bit too much of an ask to keep it going.
We had a 'purple patch', now Luton are having theirs and it'll be a true picture after the 46 games.
I don't think we need to be scared of anyone if and when we're in the playoffs, but at the same time I certainly don't think we are gonna get an 'easy ride' either.
Whoever ends up in the playoffs - it's down to who plays best on the day(s), and who gets luckiest.
I certainly don't discount ANY team - we're all where we are on merit.

I certainly have no idea what wages some players are on, and (I suspect) neither do you.
Plucking figures out of the air, basically
