WMS Sunderland AFC Opinion – The Season is Dead, I am so Sorry

If the board freshen the squad up, decide on which kids are going to play regularly, tie down Patterson Stewart and Ballard and get proper cover for centre forward then next season should be even better.
Think some tough decisions re the likes of Gooch, Embleton, Matete, Benette

Do Wise Men Say ever say anything positive? Perhaps they do, genuine question.
Of course they do. I personally usually find their content balanced and considered. It just seems that since they had some scrutiny for the recruitment policy in particular that they have been labelled as negative and this stigma has stuck. They have always been positive about the football we've been playing under Mowbray and how far we've come this season. I think people overlook that there is not only room for both sides of a discussion point but more often than not the sensible reasoning usually lands somewhere in the middle, we don't always need to label something as amazing or completely shite.

Yes of course they do but you’d need to listen to their podcasts. I think they do excellent content and we need a bit of balance otherwise every podcast or website article would just be rimming the club which sounds boring to me. After a shambolic performance it’s sometimes therapeutic to listen to fans ripping into things
This.
As an exile I love listening/reading all the content fans make for our fans. The WMS lads & lasses might well be more glass half empty than the RR lot but they're a lot more likely to tell it like it is & sometimes you want to hear one over the other. Mathew who wrote the article was quite vociferous on twitter about the January window not being good enough, whereas RR did a podcast reflecting on it's close that was oddly cockahoop.
I don't always agree with everyone's content but I for one hope they all keep making it.

I was thinking the other day, it must be 30 years since we've faced this at this stage of the season?
Of course, mathematically we still have something to play for but I think the last mid-table season was what, 1993?
I'm not counting Bruce's "10th place yer knar?" as we were looking over our shoulder at one point iirc.

I am pleased Matthew wrote the piece it shows once again, that WMS are not fearful to ask the questions, and say things that in some cases need saying, and agree or disagree with him or not but he makes some very good points.

I’m just happy we’re playing games. And not shitting ourselves we might go down or not get out of League One or whatever.
A nice result Friday and the sunshine helping our positive passing game will be sweet 😎

We’re not even close for a chance of the play offs. That’s quite an incredible statement to make after 38 games given we were 4th after 30 matches but it’s the way it is.

A dreadful run of form has also coincided with way too many recent injuries.

But it’s been a good season let’s celebrate that not keep lighting a candle for an impossible dream.

The club deciding in January not to invest in any strikers killed the season sadly.

We might not get a better opportunity of promotion for a while depending on who comes down.

Opportunity missed then Mowbray talking as if we are placing Barcelona on Friday. Guess we should know our place.

Thats exactly what the club want man, its clear to see, fans to get feet under table in the championship, let them the club have the time they need to, continue the process and then go for promotion when they want to, that could well be years away yet, lets face it, its like they have given us much to go on at meeting apart from, we are sticking with the process, speakmans grand plan.

The odds of us ever going up this season were minuscule at best. Might have sneaked into the play offs, that’s far from a guarantee of going up. There’s likely six better teams than us, even at full strength.

I don’t know about “over” but I’ve enjoyed this season more than I have in a decade. Play offs were probably a stretch too far for a brand new team and gaffer in the end with an injury list as long as my arm.

Next season I think we can afford to be more critical depending on how things go

We just don't have the depth to compete right now. Far too many injuries and not enough first team ready players to rotate given the frequency of games

Momentum. We should have shown some ambition and dared to have a functioning striker.
