Club are looking to extend the stadium

Totally agree. The airport should be renamed to Just outside Ponteland but still in Newcastle International Airport. Has a canny ring to it.
It isn't in Newcastle though, 6 miles or so away, now Ponteland airport doesn't sound great but more realistic than claiming the airport is theirs, there was a proposal to name it Newcastle and Sunderland International airport which was rejected as the mag ego's couldn't hack that fact as then they can't put out the excuse of we have our own airport  even though Sunderland council owns as much of it as them but suppose they could of went down the root of calling it Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside, Northumberland, Durham and AMP Capital International airport if we were to be accurate;)

What an absurd thread this is. People genuinely arguing that we need to extend the ground and others seemingly think we will fill it

Others want to knock the stadium down and rebuild. It's embarrassing all round.

We average about 9-10k empty seats this season. People don't half talk some pure drivel.

Could be a way to produce a business plan as an alternative to updating all the concourses and get Donald to pay 10% of either to flush him out completely. Be worth knowing for owners cost and logistics and could be paid off by many concerts every year in Sumner for a few decades ha. Could Get council onside if helps develop city economy.

WE've been here before and it was to the detriment of the club
Reidy wanted to spend on the team, Bob wanted to extend the North Stand, Reidy said the team wasn't strong enough, Bob wouldn't listen.
Bob spent the money on the stand, we got relegated.

We need to be locking people out with a good team holding it's own in the PL before any thoughts of extending the SOL.
I'd love to see it and it would look fantastic, as well as taking the capacity to around 64k.....imagine that, a full house midweek vs Real Madrid in the CL semi-finals 🙏😎
Barmaid, stop serving this man!

Probably won’t happen, granted, but I think there might be a solution that could allow the sol to be extended while providing flexibility for different capacity events. A feature of the SOL’s design is a roof all at one level regardless of the stand being bigger (north, premier concourose) or as it was initially built (south and east). Compare that to the schizophrenic mags ground which is all over the shop (3 different heights, is that the cause of the shite acoustics for concerts mentioned earlier?).

It can’t be beyond the realms of possibility to devise a system that creates a movable barrier (some sort of vinyl curtain maybe) between the edge of the roof and the front of the upper tier) on any given stand to block off any of the upper tiers that weren’t needed for a given event. you could effectively do it now to take away the west and north upper tiers for smaller gigs and events (boxing?). Give it some stripes, or make it all black, it might do the trick.

Just an (admittedly radge) thought that could allow us to have our massive capacity cake and eat it.

You don’t think we could add 10k on the stoke attendance if we were challenging for Europe constantly?
No I don't ..I think there is a limit to those within our catchment who are interested in football at this period of time ....it would ten years of success to grow a groundswell of support from those aged around 10-12 now to fill a 55 thousand ground......I hope I'm proved wrong but given past history of kld and our owners spending on anything safc i really think this extension milarkey is smoke and mirrors probably to distract from something negative coming down the line.....
That Magnus has never been right.
MAG N U S mag newcastle united supporter...........pissing himself laughing!
You can’t renew planning permission. They’ve done works to technically begin the development and can complete it whenever they like.
Semantics. Yes you don't renew previous planning permission ..You make a new application and use the previous successful application as a set president to usually get the new planning agreed.

According to Magnus over the road.

Lets forget about empty seats etc. If Sunderland want to compete seriously we need to get the infrastructre ready for the next 10 years etc.

Good move in my opinion
spot on mate. whenever forward planning plan for the future you want in at least 5 years time. not the future you want tomorrow or next season.

Uefa panel meeting and on the agenda is selecting a club who've had a total of *checks notes* 2 European ties in their entire history to host the Champions League final.

Not sure the magedia would allow it in any case.
What's that got to do with it, if the ground's up to standard?

Sorry, are you talking about 1997, when we were relegated under Reid?

Seriously. Not enough hotel rooms in the whole north east? I am surprised. There might be a few more built by the time of the extension though. Bring it on
UEFA trough pigs turn up en masse for these games plus fans media technical types etc. iirc 30 miles radius is what UEFA consider. Half the 30 miles radius is under water remember. Sunderland it ant big enough.
Why were England games played at the sol?
Nevis Wembley was shut?

Probably already been said like but only way we get that done is if it’s a grant for the euro’s, im sure when the stadium was built it was designed to be made simple to extend it just a case of shipping the roof off over the south and east stands and banging the seats in and putting the roof back on.

Obviously got it’s benefits but then there’s also the possibility of looking like MK Dons every matchday. 😅

He’s a good lad is Riv. He’s helped plenty out on here over the years with tickets and the like. So he likes a bit of an internet argument now and then, f***ing hell there’s plenty like that on here
A top lad, only met him twice, he got me a ticket for Watford away and I got him one for the Man City final for one of his mates. As quoted he has helped out shit loads of people over the years with tickets

Except that’s not what has happened. They’ve started so they don’t need to submit another application.
