Moving back home

For a big village Wheatley Hill seems a bit shit. Like it's been more forgotten than even every other East Durham village. Know someone that lives on the new estate at the top and it's quite nice there though

Aye its completely been forgotten about like. Shame.

The new estate is nice like you're right. I lived just next to it opposite the fire station

Burton Joyce isn’t too far from me and it’s beautiful. I live in top valley and it is not.

Rented a room from a bloke at work, Hillcrest Gardens. A bit posh, he told me he had bought the house off Dave Mackay.
Last place i rented was just off Carlton Hill right next to a giant used car auction place. Back to the bottom of the ladder 🙁

I’ve been away since 1990 but I live In Cornwall and not Sunderland.
I’d don’t think I’d ever move back, so much so, I’ve just moved me mam down with me from Sunderland. I basically said to her, that if she wants looking after then that’s going to be In Cornwall as I’m not moving up. She’s been with me since October. This is my Cornwall and this is my home.
Ditto Devon now for me marra.

Moved away January 1980 wild horses couldn't drag me back up there to live. I go up to see the lads play and some of my family the rest of them can fuck off, wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

Yikes, that's a bit sad. It's hard to explain and it would be interesting to know how others feel. I never feel as tho I truly belong up here or fully understand the locals or that they understand me but not sure that would be fixed by moving back like someone said earlier too much water under the bridge.

I last lived in Sunderland in 1981 and rarely visit these day except for weddings and funerals. When I retire which should be in 1-2 years time I was thinking of looking for somewhere like North haven, if that didn't appeal after a bit more research I was thinking Whitburn. Defo north of the river though.
North Haven is lovely in the summer but can be bleak in winter.

Sydney is full of Australians  I've lived in Oz & Sunderland and Sunderland is better
Each to their own. Depends on your experiences. I've had an absolute ball in my time here. My mates are from all over. English, Irish, Aussie. In fact probably my best mate is Vietnamese, top lad.

I could never swap my lifestyle here to go back home but then I came here along time ago and got established with property before the cost of living sky rocketed. It seemed actually cheaper here while wages were 2 and 3 times what I was earning back home.
I could see why someone arriving in the last 5 or 6 years would struggle in Sydney. Yesterday we were named the 2nd least affordable city in the world to live in.

40 plus years I've been away. Only the first 16 years of my 58 were up there. I've lived in this one house longer than that.
Thats a long time to be away.
When I first left I was certain I'd be back, but not now. Seen what else is out there, and prefered it tbh, and I miss nowt really apart from the football, decent pies, proper pease puddin' and stotties. Get them when I come to a match anyway.
And I've learned how to cook them all anarl.😁

Never got to Oz.
Three times, ships I was on left the UK for Oz, but got diverted to war zones, or disaster relief elsewhere. Kind of think that was telling me something tbh🤣
About the only place on my wish list I never got to.
I can live with that I think.
Would love to see an Ashes test at The Gabba or MCG though.
Maybe one day.
I moved from Devon a year ago after being down there for 20 years. New house in Ryhope no regrets whatsoever, my other half (no) originally from Cheltenham loves it as well. She was amazed she went to see The Lion King and was back home in 20 minutes. Same with a walk on the beach at Seaham
Remember you talking about getting ready to move back marra.
Glad it's all worked out for you.👍

I moved to Scarborough in 95 I hated the place I’ve got kids here now so it’s the only thing that’s really stopping me going back up north , my dads gone back up home last year and said he should of done it a long time ago … this place now is going to the dogs it’s full of foreigners and nearly every shop is shut in the shopping centre
No money spent by the council oh except to house asylum seekers

Get going.

Lived here all my life, my club, my friends, my family, everything is here.

I‘ll never leave.

I love holidaying in other parts of the UK and abroad but I will never leave home
