Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

That's utter bollocks they have never, ever derided any development in this city.

SGM editorial view is that the Keel Square and Riverside Sunderland development is a massive win for the city, and like it or not, is a masterstroke by the council.

The resident moaners of course don't like to hear this, but that's just a subsection of Sunderland's population as a whole and you will find them on any large platform.
Perceived lack of places to eat and drink!!!
You’ve made this up
Watch this space
2 years time
Miserable twats in sunlund hecho twisting about exactly this

It’s the opportunity cost. Once housing is placed on a site it landlocked for housing indefinitely thus preventing future growth. The sheepfolds are adjacent to the city centre so should have leisure retail and office opportunities. Also the central part of Sunderland has been identified as needing jobs. When you put housing on it, this opportunity is lost.

Retail? Don't be daft, we need better city centre offering (which housing will compliment) not more out of town retail parks which take shops away from centre. Plus there's tons of office space planned on Vaux & along HSW near Keel square.

That's the line all the papers used and the purpose of it was to stop people speculating or scapegoating a taxi firm, because he was a "self-employed" taxi driver.

To say that there were racial implications behind it, is also bollocks. Especially when they followed up immediately after with his name as soon as it was made public.

There's also no rule on where or what it can share stories about. A page that calls itself Sunderland GLOBAL media probably isn't purely about local stuff, is it?

There are loads of national level news stories shared on that page.
Why doesn’t the person who writes the articles for them put their name to the article like any other journalist organsation?

Its easy to say that, but where is the money coming from ? It's not like central government is flush with funds to kick up to post industrial towns like sunderland for vanity projects. It's key infrastructure in a time of economic suffocation for the country, if we want something fancy (i.e expensive) then we will be waiting a long time

Some people are just never happy

I think everyone in sunderland including the council would love an iconic, stunning structure, but it's not realistic in the current climate.

It's going to be massive for the regeneration of the city , regardless of what it looks like
Government pay for nothing, mate, It's taxpayers that foot every bill, and they seem to find the money very easy to find, when they want to dig another tube line under London, maybe they just forget, the rest of the country pay tax too.

A quick look would show they do...
Ahh on all the none controversial stories. There doesn’t seem to be any names on the articles where the supposed media site endorse people to vote for local conservatives or the anti Graeme Miller articles.

i'll not disagree with any of that.

but if they have agreed to give us £x to build this bridge, unfortunately i don't think SCC are in a position to say 'no! we need double that! the people of sunderland demand an iconic architectural marvel, not just a simple foot bridge'

i'd love it if they did, but i think the reality would be that we'd never get a bridge of any description.

Where are these articles?

Because quite clearly they don't exist.

There’s one. The linked article is deleted though how funny and coincidental.

There’s another. Hiding behind a faceless account pretending To be impartial.

I have no opinion really, either way, never seen the point in a footbridge, tbh, but eh! If that's what people want, the design is a bit generic, but hey.
