Harry Gardiner in from South Shields

He is a young man who was playing for Shields last season; im fairly sure he will grasp any first team opportunity he is given and deal with it. To be fair, he really cannot be more ineffective then the kid getting starts now
His attitude is great as well -as was the attitude of other “ non first teamers” playing last night .
Two or three should get games if we are safe .It was interesting to see some playing very well when surrounded by better footballers from the first team squad .

Who?

Johnson -17 I believe -big unit and didnt half compete last night .Has good engine and good in air( he’s been around the squad and I would give him a run of games) …he’s a Centre half mainly but played at right back last night and was in a constant “battle “ with two of their players .Came out well on top and was assisted well by the lad at Centre half Crompton.
They both look like good players for the future.Johnson is local lad not sure about Crompton.
Rigg we all know about -but for 16 he just looks comfortable already playing against players much older than himself .( somebody last night said he captained Englands under 17s to a tournament win recently and was our best player? Not sure if correct but if so -didn’t suprise me )
Three good players there .

He is also 6 foot something Mowbray mentioned on Saturday- needing to be more direct against stoke but couldn’t due to lack of height!

Crompton came in from Shrewsbury.. Rigg captained the 16s in a mini tournament with Cyprus, Scotland and Denmark.
Zac Johnson did fantastic last night as you said not in his normal position.

What kind of striker is he?
Intelligent runs, movement with a great touch.Since a toddler he finds space in the box.Not a big lump of a unit who’s going to win fights in the air like a John Hartson.

Hopefully he stays fit and keeps improving and I’ll say his time will come in the next year or two.

So is Gardiner part of the long term solution to ourlack of strikers?
Would Rossco, Gardiner plus A N Other be enough next season?

Gardiner has never made a 1st team squad. All he's done is have 1 good spell in the u23s. If he makes himself a part of the squad in pre season it's a bonus. We need 3 proper centre forwards.

I don't see why a free scoring youth prospect shouldn't be on the bench given we have zero strikers in the entire squad.

Not suggesting we start him. But 10 mins off the bench for the next few games can't hurt.

Loads said that about Thompson - Mowbray pretty much shot it down by saying he was shite.
