Kicked off SAFC land for protesting against digital

The iPhone is 15 years old. If you're 75 and going to games that's 15 years to learn how to use a modern phone. Email has been around for what at least 30 year so if you're 75 you could've had an email address since you were 40.

People are talking as if smartphones have just appeared for our change to digital season tickets. Everything now is either through the mobile or going mobile

It isn’t.

I still receive a new debit and credit card upon expiry.

I have the option of using Apple Pay. Key word being option.

There's a West Ham fan I work with. Used to go to our games one week and Newcastle the next and sometimes all the other North East teams too. Doesn't bother with us now as he hasn't got a smartphone. You have to be inclusive, or people will not bother.

Why? what is wrong wit the current card? Works fine as it is. Some people wont be happy until they've got a microchip inserted into their brain

It's about becoming more sustainable surely, reduction in the use of plastics and reducing club costs (possibly). It also means people need not worry about replacing lost or damaged cards.

Utter horseshit. Its about getting apps on peoples phones which then can be used to generate revenue

Again though, it's not compulsory to buy things through apps.

My take on this, is that it should be rolled out, but there should also be a way for people to scan their ticket either printed off or on their phone.
If it's a case of having your season card available through apple pay or Google Wallet, it's basically like a loyalty card like a TESCO clubcard.
It's very handy things like that in one place. Saves you carrying
1) Your wallet
2) Cash

The complaint that older people won't be able to manage doesn't totally wash with me.
Silver surfers spend more time on the internet than teenagers.

Anyone who may have a problem with the new system should be helped by the club.
If the club wants to instigate this, they're going to need to help people with it who may be unfamiliar with how it works.

I think a lot of this pushback is also fear of the unknown and a stubbornness to change.

You are on a different planet mate. Seriously what is wrong with the current system, nothing.
The app will be recording data on your spending habits etc which can then be sold by the club to generate revenue

What is right about it? Does it take longer for people to get in with paper or cards etc?
Will the new system speed up people getting into the stadium? Will it help to prevent fraud?
If you have a supporter number, your spending habits i.e. tickets etc you've bought will be on your record.

If you have any kind of loyalty card, your spending habits will be tracked. This is nothing new.

i'm as environmentally aware as the next man, and fully believe in climate change, but that line is absolute bullshit when used as an excuse for this.

1 - 26000 cards already exist, they are in peoples possession, paid for and manufactured and are of use to people, the club seemingly want every single one of these to go in the bin after the last home game of the season unnecessarily. they could be kept, and used, for the next decade

2- to give some sort of proportion, there are 1000s and 1000s of single use plastic glasses used every single home at SoL . one home game will produce more plastic waste than every season ticket combined.

its all about proportionate responses to problems, and using the environmental line with this issue is taking people for fools.

i'd like to see the breakdown of how many people at the playoff final last year chose to print their tickets off rather than scan in. there was 50 in our group and we all had them printed.

if the club offer someway of 'printing off' your season ticket that would be a massive help

or, outrageous i know, if they just allowed people to continue using the cards THAT THEY ALREADY f***ing HAVE that would be very convenient

There seems to be some conflation of SAFC, as a private company and its sustainability objectives with those of you as the individual. This is the club doing all that it can. If people choose to print them themselves then thats fine. Thats not the club creating waste, thats the individual.

Im not sure how else to explain this, no longer producing the thing that is environmentally more impactful, in this case plastic cards, is a positive move. The existing cards can be recycled.

Yeah watch this space on the cups, they'll be replaced by compostable single use cups.

Really sad people are looking for all manner of flimsy and largely poor justifications for an organisation doing all it can to reduce environmental impact and become more sustainable. There are studies out there that link working class communities with poor education outcomes to climate scepticism.

Sorry like but that's bollocks. There is fuck all wrong with the cards that 26,000 of us have at the moment.

By all means introduce digital cards, not one person is against them. What people are against is it being the ONLY option. It's not right man. One of the stipulations of having a season ticket now being the owner of a smartphone . What's the point ? We already have cards, just let them be used. Absolutely no need to inconvenience 1000s of people.

Here I'm all for sustainability, 100% believer in man made climate change. However, I am a great believer even more so in proportionality .

It's a drastic move, that is going to cause a major headache for a lot of people and ultimately stop a small number from going, for very very little gain (environmentally speaking) . How many people are going to recycle Thier old card?

Moving to recyclable cups at the kiosks would make more of an impact on the environment in 5 minutes of the first match than this digital season ticket move evert will. That's what I'm talking about, proportional reactions to things.

KLD will be flying in on his private jet for fucks sake. He could publicly state he's getting the train up to the next home game, that would make a massive impact both in real terms and in supporting the message

NFC Season Tickets

What if I do not have a smart device?

If you don’t have a smart device (iPhone, Apple Watch, Android Phone, or smartwatch), you can send your email containing the link to your digital season ticket to a friend or family member you are attending with, who can download the ticket onto their phone and enter with you.
The Club is also conscious that some digital season ticket holders may not have access to a smart device (smartphone or smartwatch) and we will work with you to provide a solution on a case-by-case basis to ensure no supporter is excluded from the 2023-24 renewal or purchase process.

If you do not have access to a smart device (smartphone or smartwatch), please visit the Stadium of Light ticket office following the renewal period, email [email protected], or contact your local supporters’ branch, who will liaise with the Club directly to ensure you additional support.

Can I enter the stadium with a screenshot of my digital season ticket?

No, as digital season tickets utilise NFC technology and not barcode functionality.

Therefore, a screenshot of your digital season ticket or the email confirming your digital season ticket WILL NOT permit you entry to the stadium on a matchday.

You need to download your digital season ticket from the link in your booking confirmation email.

I have my child’s digital season ticket and my digital season ticket on my phone. How do we enter the turnstile with just one phone?

Ideally, each supporter would have their own smart device (smartphone or smartwatch), however we do understand not everyone has a personal smart device (smartphone or smartwatch), particularly our younger supporters.

More than one digital season ticket can be loaded to one smart device (smartphone or smartwatch), although each digital season ticket can only be loaded once.

If your child or anyone in your group does not have a smart device (smartphone or smartwatch) with mobile wallet or NFC capability, we would recommend loading their ticket to your smart device (smartphone or smartwatch).

When accessing tickets on your smart device (smartphone or smartwatch), you will be able to swipe left and right between different tickets to find the correct one to scan.

When approaching the turnstile, please have the child's ticket ready first, scan that digital season ticket and let the child go through the turnstile before scanning and entering on your own digital season ticket.

Reminds me of the giro/pension change. Loads of oldies up in arms because they now had to use a card and press a few buttons for their money.

I do understand there is challenges like juggling cards for kids, but for some it’s just plain refusal to learn something new and evolve.
Or buy a smart phone. Not just about pressing a few buttons, though that is a genuine issue for people not used to it. Mebbes if the club paid for smart phones that might help a little.

The assumption that everyone lives their lives with their phone is so patronising. Be happy if something suits you but accept it's not for everyone.
