Striker situation

We were short even with Stewart fit. Earlier in the season also showed it was a possibility he could pick up a long term injury and he wasn't superhuman.

Not bringing in another out and out striker might just have been a catastrophic decision and they need to learn from it and it'll get mentioned everytime we don't win - not sure why you think that is wrong or why you expect anything else, just because you don't like hearing it.
99% of these board were going nuts in October saying we needed another striker ALONGSIDE stewart and simms after were short. Now we only have the 1 who isn't an out and out striker.

Don't wanna go over the transfer ground again like but if you'd told people that back then they'd have said no chance etc
That's exactly what we should be doing which is quite different to moaning about not getting a striker in.
Well I wasn't moaning about not getting one. I was bemoaning injuries and recalls.
Probably last time we dropped points.
Hahaha top banter mate. Not my fault you've struggled to read the op for what it is. Not one moan there, but crack on.

"might just".

Yes it might. But that's where we are. Happy to listen to suggestions to improve the team with the current squad but no one is really offering anything except "I told you so."

And I could even live with that if they didn't all feck off when we win.

But the minute it's mentioned people jump. Look at the first page as an example.

Should I mention that Gelhardt looks like he needs another big striker to feed off? Yes I should as it's my opinion, can thay discussion happen? No because it's seen as Negative

Well it's a hardly an "on reflection post" when it's at 4.56 is it.

Which of our current big strikers should he be feeding off?

It was a post because I was disappointed and gutted about the missed chances this season due to injuries etc.

People like yourself have added in extra context because it suits and it's turned into moan about recruitment and a moan about speakman, who I've repeatedly said has been incredible.

I'm not sure what you expect. Newly promoted club that has had massive financial problems, new structure, top class loans, some great signings and playing at rtimes top class entertaining football. We don't have a bottomless pit and we were never going to get good cover in every position first season. We have done incredibly well to get a squad as good and as talented as we have. Not signing Ballard might have been a catastrophic decision, not getting Diallo as a loan or signing the likes of Roberts and Clarke under this lot. All of those decisions could have been catastrophic had we not brought them in. Massively entitled by those that kick off every time they dont get things their own way.

Huge pressure on the summer mind to bring a couple of strikers in like. I don't envy them

So who is your Brian Deane equivalent that we could have signed last minute? Its my view anyway that we would be a poorer side with that tyoe of player unless they are of really good quality which we werent going to get in the last 24 hours. During the window we were trying to get Simms, trying at get Nemeth, trying to get Geldhart and had Stewart. There was a whole combination of factors such as Lampards sacking, Stewarts injury and yes a reluctance to get a last minute Chris Martin type that has us where we are (which is of course in an incredible position given the efforts of the recruitment team in the last year) As i've said before I'm quite shicked at a small minority of fans (you included tbf) moaning about it.

They've ran it too close to the wire and this season its costing them. Whilst the recruitment team have largely done a fantastic job and had countrywide praise from all and sundry, I'm also wondering why we are simply not allowed to criticise the recurring failure in not having enough striking cover on our books?

I've also heard Speakman offer too many excuses In terms of Dejaku/Clarke/Amad also being strikers or playing there, not needing more, or it being too late - despite it being abundantly clear it was the one area we needed to strengthen at the beginning of the last three windows, especially so in the window just gone!

What's pissed me off tonight is people (in the response to the lack of a striker thread) criticising lads individually like Hume or making other excuses when there's a plethora of reasons we're making a bit more hard work of games like today or Reading, one main one being the lack of a striker and the way it affects how the team works as a whole.

So yeah whilst you won't find me moaning about it generally - if people are in denial, I'll be pointing it out.

It's definitely harming us. We're still going to be able to compete, it just makes it much more difficult at times than it maybe should be.

That's why people are so vehement about it though- because there isn't any.

And at the same time there's an opportunity there which we're not sure is going to come around again next season or the one after....
