Google ‘Lee Mason VAR’ and quite a few of the media outlets are reporting that he’s quit. If he’d been sacked then his bosses wouldn’t have initially stood him down for this weekend, they’d have got shot straight away.

think its improved the percentage of correct decisions over the course of 90 mins by 1% , i read somewhere. from 95% to 96% , something like that
and the price for that has been to rip out what was left of the soul of the game

Probably. But they’re not needed. Football is better to watch without it. Video technology lends itself well to some sports. Not football.

So, some sort of VAR for VAR maybe? After all, it was brought in because people made mistakes.
Sitting watching rugby just now. You hear the interjections by the video ref and the discussion with the ref. Works perfectly and they get decisions right and quickly.
How can a bigger, wealthier sport like football make such a pig’s ear of it?

It's down the culture of the fans more than that sport getting it particularly right
Surely having transparent discussions and quick decisions is better than the joke we have now
Do you think football fans will just start accepting decisions they don't like because the refs happened to be mic'd up?

Because the arseholes who run and govern football see the sport as far superior to all others and don’t want to be seen to be getting ideas from ‘inferior’ sports.

I’ve totally changed my view on it. Always thought it could be used and be useful. Now I absolutely hate it.
Totally different culture, the referees have authority and respect and bad discipline is punished. You don't see many NFL players talking back either. Football is a money fuelled greed train and the referees are in the way.

It's not the same game though. Rugby, and more so cricket, has natural breaks and I think fewer rules that are open to interpretation

Scapegoat.
Might not like it but they’d hear the reasoning. VAR just now is a shambles. You know when the ref’s told to have a look at a screen he’s really being told to change his decision.
