Members Night - Jan 2023

Durham Cricket is pleased to confirm that our first members event of 2023 will take place on Tuesday 31 January at 6:30pm at Seat Unique Riverside.

Members will have the chance to hear from new Head Coach Ryan Campbell who will speak with members for the first time since joining in January.

BBC Newcastle and Durham Cricket commentator Martin Emmerson will host the night, which will take place in the Geoff Cook Lounge.

Director of Cricket Marcus North will accompany Ryan for a discussion with Martin Emmerson before giving members a chance to ask any questions, as the 2023 season gets ever closer.

This event is exclusive to 2023 members however no registration is required for the night.

Did this meeting used to be called "meet the players" when members got the chance to see new signings for the upcoming season. We haven't got any have we? So im not really bothered about hearing Marcus North and Campbell rabbit and waffle on.Am I negative I suppose so as I am not getting any positive vibes from the club

I suppose it's to meet the new head coach but given he's had his say on looknorth,in a club interview and one with Radio Newcastle difficult to think of anything new can come at this meeting.

The ‘meet the players’ event is always at the same time as the ‘media day’ in late March.

As for new singings, officially we’ve signed Ollie Robinson from Kent in this ‘off-season’ period.

Just got back. In terms of enthusiasm and communication skills, Ryan Campbell is about as far removed from James Franklin as you could possibly imagine. I’m happy to give the bloke my support (not that I have much choice like 😁)
Comes across as very personable. Was much said of interest?

A few notes from the meeting:

Ryan Campbell gave us a bit of his history as a w/k for Western Australia before being displaced by Gilchrist, his time with Hong Kong and then Holland along with his near death experience last April. It was revealed he was offered the same role at Sussex but chose Durham.

He hates draws and him and North promised far more positive cricket than last season (that won't be difficult!)

Brandon Glover a Dutch/Saffer has been signed. He's 'seriously fast' according to Campbell and although more of a white ball player RC wants him to play red ball cricket and said this applies to all Durham players using Graham Clark( someone who has impressed him in the indoor nets) as another example .

North said they will announce an ' exciting International T20 signing' next week who plays in the IPL. He also said they are trying to get 'an exciting youngster' signed and are still looking for an overseas player (it sounded like it will be a bowler.

Campbell said he is bringing in James Hilditch (son of Aussie opener Andrew) as part of the coaching team.

There were tributes to Rushy and Killa.

North said the Top 5 would probably be Lees Jones Borthwick Bedingham Robinson with No 6 up for grabs (him and Campbell mentioned Bushnell and McKinney and the latter said he wouldn't be afraid to drop players.

North said the ECB are going to experiment in Round 9 and 10 by using the Kookaburra ball in this season's CC.

Would agree 100% with this

Cheers that was spot on.
Reading marty Emnersons twitter feed on last night he pretty much reiterates what red telephone had already informed us about. But also added they are on a pre season tour to Zimbabwe so perhaps finances are not as tight as certainly i thought they where.

Aye I forgot to mention the Zimbabwe tour - they were having a chuckle about the last one in 2020 when they just landed and had to return due to Covid lockdown. Mind you last March at the Racecourse was almost as warm as Africa.
