We are the best supported club in the Championship

Worth pointing out also Newcastle had spent 70 million in the championship that season and had hugely popular manager who had just been at Real Madrid.

The previous time they were in the championship 5 years earlier and won the league with 102 points, their average attendance was 43,000 which isn't bad but that is still 12k empty seats.

This needs some context for sure .

That season was our worst attendance average since we rebuilt the stadium, yet the last time you beat that was in 2001/02 despite 12 of the seasons since being in the PL, you also had 2 promotion seasons from the Championship - Firstly 04/05 when you averaged 28,821 and secondly in 06/07 when you averaged 31,887.

So a relatively low for us anyway 43k is still far better than any of the above .

Ah right makes sense. I know a lad and his dad who were on it and it was ridiculously cheap iirc. I imagine we would also have a pretty good take up were that an option here

Every time the price went up theirs stayed the same iirc. So at first it wasn't cheap but every price rise made theirs seem a bit cheaper. Think by the 10th year they saved about £100 a season or thereabouts. Tbf ours haven't risen in the past decade so it wouldn't reallt work here.

It’s like anything in life.

I wouldn’t pay 2 quid to watch a shit film, I’d pay £10 to watch a good one.

I wouldn’t drink £4 wine, but I’d drink 2 bottles at a 10er each.

There’s an element of tribalism, but that’s accounted for by those of us who had STs in league 1. As the footy improves, so will attendance figures. Some of the football we played in the relegation season you couldn’t pay me to watch.
so the premier league is the top tier and clubs less successfull than safc have been in it charge more

it wont improve enough if we gte promoted to need a biggers stadium..if you have to offer chronically cheap tickets to fill a stadium, indeed to not even sell out most weeks, then the stadium is too big not too small

I'm pleased that a lot of kids are turning up, being enthusiastic and hopefully (some would say stupidly) catching the bug. I hope their next 60 years delivers more success than I've witnessed.
Yep it’s quite easy to see where our numbers have grown compared to RP for instance. The amount of kids with mam, dad or both is great to see

Its because some loonies spend their life on here yet never attend, ever, if theyre telling the truth.

I see you're giving it the "our" and "we" now that you're looking good. Typical mag.

But, but, but wer get 52k screaming geordies every game.🤔

Oh aye and 10k free season tickets.

The phrase “sleeping giant” was made for Sunderland and our amazing fans.

Unfortunately the club have been unconscious for the last half a century, never mind just sleeping

Once the North Koreans buy us we’ll have 75k each week, win after win after win.

Good times are coming.
Their leader will score double hattricks every game.
He’d score 4 every match and wed never lose. He’d keep a clean sheet every match to boot. Imagine how boring it would get. TV would be no issue as it would be the only thing on, when the electricity is working.
Ah, you beat me to it and did it better as well!

Well said mate but I really doubt if you're lot could do any better if you'd been as shite as we have for 70 of the last 75 years .

Any Mag of a certain age will remember when we both used to average in the 20k's. They have the bigger fan base now, I don't think it's a put down on us to admit it. They boomed at the perfect time and were near the top og the PL for a decade. When it comes to real hardcore fans the clubs are both as mad as each other, even Boro have a great away support.
