Was on the 5.20 metro tonight from East boldon going to the airport when a canny few people got on , I noticed a few of them had Dutch accents. They seemed to be with a group of lads who were from South Shields. They all got off at central station. Anyone on here know them/were you one of the shields lads ?

Was just wondering if it was the Sunderland Dutch club connection

We have had fans going back n forth between ourselves and Feyenoord for years.
It's not just them though as you get a lot of Dutch lads coming over for the weekend to us and the mags. Not sure why they travel so far but they seem to like the north east

Cheap ferry to shields maybe?

A few years ago was in albuferia in Portugal n was climbing the steps up to the top of hill where hotel was, I hears some singing up ahead turned out to be safc songs n when I joined in n got talking turned out was a group of Dutch lads n lasses who regularly come over n stay at Queen Vic at roker.
A strange meeting but was cool night

I've talked to many Dutch fans, from a host of their clubs over the years at the SoL. SAFC have had a connection with Feyenoord for a few years. I don't know if that link has diminished in recent times. Dutch fans watch a lot of our football on TV. They are also attracted to some of the "proper" football clubs in the UK because of the history they have, the fan bases and their travelling support. In many cases, Dutch footy pales in comparison.

About 20 Go Ahead Eagle fans were in the Wheatsheaf a few months ago. Canny lads. Wee Phillie was ripping the piss out of a ginger lad with them
