6 or out?

Ridiculous how far in that boundary is. So much grass outside the playing perimeter. If I were the umpire I'd give the benefit of the doubt to the batsman and give it a six only because usually catches like that are performed that way because there is little room between the ropes and the advertising boards whereas here you can drive a car between that gap.

If it was Stokes, best catch ever in the history of cricket

What did they give 6 or out?
It was given out. They'd have needed 20 from 10 to win the game if it had been given 6.

I think under the rules right it was given out.

But I think that is probably stretching it to a ridiculous precedent going forward.

Yeah, it's out under the rules but the rule is ridiculous. Surely have to start from inside the boundary for it to be legitimate, as the rule used to be....

It’s out within the rules as they stand, but obviously this needs changing as it looks absolutely ridiculous.

Or at least get back inside the boundary rope before touching the ball again. Otherwise you'll end up with players literally standing next to the fence so they can take a run up for a catch and leap over the rope back into the field of play.

Yeah, that's what I mean, sorry if it wasn't clear. I think any contact with the ball should have to be initiated from inside the boundary otherwise you can just run miles out, jump and palm it back to another fielder which doesn't sit right with me.

An interesting one but if that had been given out it would have made a mockery of the game.

I don't know the exact ruling on this, but for me if you touch the ball behind the boundary whether your feet are on the ground or not, and the whole of the fielder is behind the line it's a six.

Like others have said it's out but there needs to be a change. He left the field of play, interacted with the ball after he'd left the field and before he returned.

It's 6. You have to re-establish yourself on the field before you touch the ball again. As soon as he catches it for the second time, it's a six.

Anything else would be stupid, or you could have fielders deliberately positioned outside the rope.

If that out whats to stop a player knocking the ball up more than once in kangaroo fashion until they reach the field of play as long as theyre not in contact with ball and ground at the same time ?

Nothing. They could go and grab a quick pint while juggling and jumping if we’re going off the rules
