How Good is our Squad?

A fully fit squad is a rare situation for any football club, we should recruit with the assumption that 20% will be unavailable at any given time.
Sheffield Utd have 14 players in their squad, who have played 15 or more of their 21 league fixtures this season.

Norwich 13
Burnley 16
Watford 14
Blackburn 13
Swansea 14
Millwall 15
QPR 13
Preston 15

Sunderland have 10...so every team above us in the table has been able to regularly select more of the same core group of players than us. They've all had more consistent selections, and by a considerable margin. We are 3 shy of the next lowest!

Good stat that. Says alot

Bass was well liked at Pompey

A few posters knock him without seeing him play. I'm sure he will be fine

I've see Bass a few times at our 23s games and I think he was in a goal the few times I watched Bradford last season, has never been great baring that Newcastle hand of god moment.

I'd back him if he did start but I don't ever think he'd start over Patto baring Injury

on paper its a good squad, one I think when fully fit is more of a 3-4-2-1 or 4-3-3 squad gooch and clark wide.Amad Stewart and probably Simms up front. Evans is a question mark but we kind of need one player old enough not to be my grand kid (i'm in my very early 50's)

We have a better group of attackers than most of those teams.

Squad wise we're a but shy of quality in midfield. Plenty of potential but not enough immediate quality. Could be our downfall if not addressed in january.

we shouldnt be doing much business in Jan IMO, its all about keeping a happy squad, I'd maybe want cover for Evans and a long term striker prospect on a permnanent, maybe a young lad

wouldnt be getting a short term experienced striker or out

Below average midfielders?
Central midfield and striking strength in depth are the areas to address in January and which will determine whether we can stay the distance in a push for promotion. We have some very good players already and we haven’t played a wow factor side yet and have absolutely nothing to be scared of.

Patterson/Bass
Gooch/Hume/Huggins - Ballard/O'Nien - Batth/Wright - Alese/Cirkin
Evans/Michut
Neil/Matete/Ba - Pritchard/Embleton
Amad/Roberts - Stewart/Simms - Clarke/Bennette/Dajaku

I'd say it is outstanding to be fair!

So many different options, different attributes and barely any deadwood! With any potential incomings going forward it has got to be quality over quantity now.

less than a week until the transfer window and you know what. I'm not even bothered if any new faces are added this January now. I said we had an outstanding squad then and I'll say it again, we have an outstanding squad.

what I'd like to see more than anything is Stewart getting tied down to a new contract and if we can.. make Simms loan into a permanent deal.

We absolutely need one or two mind.

Squad is good enough to finish top 6 but coach needs to be of the same ilk, only time will tell if mowbray is the right man, but i do like and support him

We have no one to cover Evans and should still be looking for a forward imo.

From the little we’ve seen of Michut I’d play him as that deep lying midfielder. He’d be able to collect the ball off the defence and spray it about.

I’d definitely be happy mind if we did add two additions but it has to be quality over quantity now. Anyone that is signed has to instantly be competing for a first team spot that makes us better.

I’d like to see
Is sign a CM of good quality that will go straight into team. And possibly another young centre forward who can develop and do a job if/when Stewart is unavailable or needs a rest.

On our day SAFC can beat anyone in this league... but.... I feel a promotion to the Premier in our first attempt this season would be too soon.

We are not ready. I also dont feel the current ownership will invest to the right level to keep us up if promoted .

Dont want to be another yoyo club tbh
You are right it’s a season too early but a £100 million goes a long way. It will also allow us to keep our best players.

We have numbers in there, but would think our midfield options maybe aren't quite good enough for a genuine challenge. Our front 4 yesterday are as good as any in the league and we're strong with centre defence options as well.
