Did a tour of Bolivia and Chile and was praying all the flights were on time as had to go from Santiago to Panama to Schipol to Sunderland North.
Fortunately all connections were spot on and landed in UK Saturday evening.
Met lads met in Chaplins 10.30 Sunday morning, full of apprehension as always .
What an end to the game, a brilliant save from Pants, a lightning fast counter attack from the resulting corner, and a superb finish from 'him' (great credit to ref for playing on too).
The goal celebrations were mental, I mean, a last second winner Vs the filth at scum park just before Christmas. It doesn't get much better than that.

I watched most of the first half in the newly opened Vesta Tilley's. I say "most" as I jumped up when Steve Fletcher hit the bar and smacked my head off a low ceiling at the side of the room. There was blood everywhere. My claim to fame is that the barmaid who tended my wound in the bogs said I was the first person they had used their first aid kit on in that pub.

My heed wouldn't stop bleeding though and she recommended I went to Sunderland A&E. Yeah, for a nice 5 hour wait? Nee chance! So I jumped in a taxi home and my wife, who worked in Durham A&E, was glueing my heed together as I listened to Johnson scoring on the radio in our kitchen.

I saw this every year and I repeat it again. After the game the played the John Lennon Xmas song and the camera panned to a young Newcastle fan (about 7 or 8) with tears steaming down his face, he was in a lot of distress and was obviously heartbroken.

It was a beautiful site. I thought to myself, happy Xmas JL1985.

One thing I’ve always noticed, Everyone there who are in the Sunderland camp going crackers, fans, touchline, players. Apart from O’Shea and Brown who’ve been there done that and seen it all. Probably thinking “f***ing hell imagine we won these a champions league”
