Gary Neville

it has..he was criticising UK government policy towards workers..
the legality of zero hours contracts is a UK government policy towards workers..and neville supports it and profits from it
I said he was bang on about what he spoke about, not every little nuance around it. His morality is completely seperwate to the govt being a joke.

I never said he did. I said he was the wrong person to be discussing workers rights whilst sat there inside an arena that 1000s of workers lost their lives building and being paid £1.6m to do so.

That suggests he in fact cares for his wallet a lot more than he does these workers. The thing with the likes of Neville is that their actions tend to speak louder than their words.

Maybe he should get himself on something like Question Time then. Doubt he'd go back on Have I got News for You, after being absolutely slaughtered on there last time.

That again was abit shit, you had assholes in the government saying they would not be attending Qatar , you could see they were sucking up to the general public trying to 'look good' yet at the same time making huge deals with Qatar at the same time.

I repeat why is it ok for the government to get into bed with Qatar yet we demonize Neville for going there to do his job with ITV?

Na, I wish hed just fuck off from the football and get stuck into the Politics if thats were he wants be, but keep the two seperate.

I agree but you still haven't acknowledged that it was ITV pushing the political agenda.

Its either free to all or no politics at all.

but he endorses govt policy when it suits him..and profits from it..
you seem to think he actually dislikes govt policy..he doesnt..
he was just doing what pundits are supposed to do on TV..cause controversy to generate publciity..he succeeded in doing that..while endorsing government polciy off the TV screen when it suits him...

What does that have to do with me saying he's bang on with what he said? I haven't claimed what he thinks.

the neville criticism isnt related to qatar though..its related to the UK government and publci sector pay..nowt to do woth qatar..
in PR terms its called a divert...Neville didnt want to talk about qatar govt that funds him and his best mate..so he went on about UK government worker policies instead..
but was also being dishonest there..

so you agree that what he said was good but he was lying when he said it? ie he doesnt really agree with you at all?

I've never even gave my opinion on the govt except what he said is correct. The issues highlighted in both countries should be highlighted.

Gary nevilles moral actions is irrelevant.

but he wasnt trying to highlight the issue in the UK thats bad..
and also drawing a moral equivalency..which is what he and you are doing..between the pay rates for a train driver and the deaths of migrant workwers is frankly revolting..
but its called a divert..its a very old and very expensive PR strategy....and neville is excellent at implementing it...he oibviosuly has an expensive PR firm

Aye about Qatar.
Anyway going round in circles we aren't going to agree.

Some of the responses in this thread are staggering mind.

There's no debate here, he's a hypocrite and morally bankrupt. Do I agree with what he's saying? Of course I do, but the bloke has made several documentaries and a large amount of comments in the build up to this tournament focusing on the justified negatives of the Qatari world cup, mostly the workers right which border on slave labour and resulted in deaths. This shined a light on worrying issues and highlighted how corrupt FIFA is.

However after all this vindication he then decides to go to Qatar in a professional capacity, collecting indirectly Qatari Riyals, to broadcast the very event he's lamented from the beginning and then doubles down using said platform to further pontificate on social, economic and political issues on the home front.

This further extends to the BBC team who made the decision to lecture the viewer rather than show them the opening ceremony on the main platform BBC1.

Did I enjoy the world cup? Of course I did, but it should never have went ahead and it should have been boycotted by teams, players, organisers, broadcasters and pundits. Not an easy decision but these folk (Neville, Lineker, Scott et al) lecture you most weeks on rights and various social causes and yet these people, who can actually make a difference by voting with their feet, chose to turn a blind eye, it's staggeringly morally bankrupt.

Imagine thinking you’ve made a good point by posting that absolute ghoul’s tweet.

If there’s one thing that gets me outraged, it’s football pundits saying that nurses should be paid more fairly. What a bell.

its not correct to apply moral equivalence to them..nad by doing that he is literally doing sportswashing that safc fans think is bad!
neville is comemrcially a very shrewd operator..and he earned his massive bunce in this one.

Gary Neville's wallet and workers' rights are not connected, but people are connecting them anyway. The people who ran the construction sites are the people who should be receiving criticism.

they are connected by his wallet is filled with money he gets from employing UK workers on zero hours contracts?

I'm not sure why you are comparing the Qatari deaths and Qatari workers' rights with his hotels back home. It's not relevant to the discussions we have been having.

Don’t you know anything goes when it comes to criticising someone who is a little bit “lefty” and has earned some money?
