4 new contracts

A commitment to youth? Or simply no other option?!

Either way, good news.

A little of both, can't see us acquiring players better than then any other way, with the exception of drissell maybe slightly surprising after the signing of sowter.

We desperately need numbers tbf

They're all  renewed contracts so it hasn't strengthened the squad. Certainly the three academy products are excellent prospects but why no mention of Maclindon?

The squad still needs strengthening.. assuming we get an overseas pro in who can be as dependable (wickets and fitness) as rushy - which is a big if - were still only on par with last year and relying on improvements within above and beyond any regression within and assuming the new lad will be better than Franklin... We'd all hope so but no guarantees

We probably have the same numbers in the squad already as we did last season its just worringly made up of a lot of young inexpeirenced pros be it on full or rookie contracts.
It reminds me of 20 years ago when our batting line up was made up of Gough Mustard Peng Muchall Pratt and Pattison. All outstanding England junior records but when you had 3 sometimes 4 in your top 7 it was all to much for them.

Our 1st choice X1 is strong and experienced
Lees
Jones
Borthwick
Bedingham
Robinson
Bushnell
Trevascis
Coughlin/Carse
Raine
Potts
Overseas.

But short on reserve batting but
Gibson,Maclinden and Killeen for the bowling.

Yes its very similar to the squad of 20 years ago but i think our senior players this time are probably a bit more reliable and consistent.
Going to need a season from Lees and Bedingham like 2021 and Borthwick needs to rediscover how to score championship hundreds to prop up our batting.
Seam bowling looks ok if they can stay fit which is a big IF and Pottsy availability.
I suppose its a great opportunity for the youngsters because they are going to get games. It will be interesting to see if any of them emerge to become a first team regular especially the batsmen.

We have no squad depth. Plus we like Carse but he spends more time injured than playing. Sure the ECB will stick their oar in telling us Potts can only play this game etc. They put us back years with that dodgy relegation the scumbags!

Not very good/ or untried bowling reserves as well

Drissell? Really?

Now there's a slim possibility that his might come back to bite me on the arse in the future, but he has never looked anything other than club standard to me.

Apart from that it's a no brainer getting the current youth crop tied down.
