Jan Paul van Hecke (rumour)

I would still sign him if we can get him permanently like. A back 3 of Ballard, Van Hecke, Alese would be excellent.

I imagine so since Alese signed like 2 weeks before we were in for him
You’re selling Danny Bath a bit short their mind aren’t you? He’s been tremendous this year.

I’ll admit I haven’t seen Van Heck play before but I’d be surprised if he’s good enough to walk in and take the shirt off Bath.

Only if we have injuries. Think O’Nien being fairly impressive at CB stops us needing another there. Ballard, Batth, Alese, O’Nien is a decent four - Cirkin can play LCB in a three too so got enough numbers there

Can anyone see us going back in for him in Jan? Hasn't featured since Potter departed
Doubt it, given how well O9 has been playing there and Ballard is coming back from injury and we seem to have switched to a back four of late, meaning we now have Bath, 09, Ballard, Alese, Wright all competing for just 2 places (although Alese is also competing for left back, but I see him more of a centre back if it’s a back four)

Personally feel we need to constantly be looking to improve.

O'Nien has done relatively well as a CB in a 3 (poor in a 2 for the most part), but van Hecke would certainly be an improvement on both him and Wright, and therefore I'd be all for it.

As much as I like the aforementioned players especially Wright, there's no room for sentiment here and if there are any opportunities to replace good servants to the club with better, we need to be saying thanks very much for everything and taking it.

What’s crucial to keep now for me is this “ team “ ethos that every player seems to mention when questioned.
Getting the right player hasn’t always been one of our strengths -there seems a great squad mentality especially considering the mix of backgrounds, ages
experience .
We want players that will slot in and not cause problems -stating the obvious but hasn’t always seemed a priority with some of the wasters we’ve employed on big bucks …

If he's better than all of them and we can do it then we should.

In a world where we have infinite resources I would be inclined to agree. However, we do have limitations on what we can spend, and on what we can pay players, and so the money would be better spent on a backup to Evans or another striker.
Those are the positions we are currently very weak in depth.

Unless we are intending moving some of our current squad on that is.

I think he'd want to be first choice if he did come and I just can't see how he'd be given that opportunity when we've got Ballard to come back who looked like a mountain and cost a rather large sum of money for us.

Then you have Batth, who many would say has been our player of the season so far. Onien has been a revelation since changing position and Alese has looks like he has all the tools to be a superb CB. Wright hasn't had much of a look in, but has just been away for a world cup and is known for his leadership abilities around the squad.

I'm all for improving the team, but I think we've got such good options there, that I'd be inclined to start adding more talented youth to the U23's to progress over bringing another CB in on loan who'll barely feature and may upset the good team spirit we clearly have at the moment.

well yes but we dont have infinite reosurces so we have to prioritise resources to the positions they are most needed in the first instance..owt left after that can go on lower priority areas

Both very fair points.
