Is there any monetary gain from playing this meaningless friendly against another football team? Are we going to kick off if we play a team from Africa or Turkey or Russia (not gonna happen anytime soon I agree) or in South America or god forbid the biggest human rights abusers of the all the great US of A. This isn’t sportswashing in the slightest and is in no way hypocritical of being against a team being owned by the very people that execute people that are against its regime. Thing this is a massive overreaction personally

As I said though no monetary gain. We are playing a game of football against another team of people that happen to come from a country that has poor human rights. Would we kick up a fuss playing against a team from the places I mentioned? No of course not.

There will be some money involved but unsure to who etc. Sure Ecuador played a friendly last weekend even though their world cup team was still with their clubs so had to field a random 11. Apparently couldn't pull out because it was signed and money all agreed

The link I provided offered evidence that they do have strong links to the regime. It's not just about direct monetary gain.

You can't just say it's been done for no monetary gain then.

Any club being paid to participate in a match by the Saudis would be an example. It would basically just be paid for PR for them.

We have gone to Dubai for training maybe they were best quality opposition we could play? As stated if we were earning money from it yes I would have an issue. I’m differentiating between profiting from a regime and playing a game against people that happen to coke from that country. Are we against all Saudis now? Do we hate all Russian people? All people from Nigeria? Yemen? Shall I go on? It’s so so different and I’m a bit embarrassed how some are going on about it if I’m honest.
