The Spirit of 37 stance - Saudi fixture in Dubai.

Just had a response from Chris Waters on twitter saying he is collating all of the feedback on this via emails, so if you want the club to take note then email [email protected].

He said tomorrow is his last day at work for 2 weeks so get your feedback in sharpish.

Shite on Chris to be taking the flack again.

Davison the clown no where to be seen again when something actually needs sorting.

We cüold have chosen a team from any of the other 30 countries playing in Qutar as their leagues will have been suspended. But no, our moronic leaders have chosen a team from this backward, anti human rights, murderous country. As for they don't seem to have any connection to the regime. FFS
What is their connection to the regime beyond being based in that country?
Should Sunderland be held accountable for the actions of the tory government?

It’s a pretty poor choice in the sense it was always likely to provoke a reaction mind.

A quick Google suggests this bloke is behind the club (or was). Doesn't sound great to me, and closely tied to the regime:

"During a visit to the club in January 2008, Al Shabab's main supporter, Khalid bin Sultan, announced the launch of two new projects, Al Laith TV Channel, and Al Shabab Museum."

The Spirit of 37 would like to make it clear that we cannot and will not support the planned fixture in Dubai. This fixture goes against everything that we stand for and would urge the club to reconsider immediately following extensive supporter feedback across all forms of social media.

Morals before money every time.

#MoralsBeforeMoney
Who is profiting from this friendly between two professional football clubs?

He shouldn't have to but he's literally the only point of contact for fans.

Shocking isn’t it? We’ve seen how inept Davison is when supporters safety is severely put at risk of when people can’t buy tickets or items from the club shop.

This absolutely pointless trip and friendly in yet another massive PR own goal by the brain dead leadership at the club.

Shocking statement.I see no reference to saying mags are evil vermin who dance to the sound of bombs killing Yemeni children.

Apart from that well done

The match would be played before he made a decision based on past performance.
They absolutely are.

I’m going to start a new thread with my opinion, for the likes
They are a public facing fan group. I think it's worthwhile then getting their opinion out there by whatever means necessary.

David Jones- ‘the club is professional in every area now’

Am I missing something with this fixture?

It’s a friendly against a team that happen to be from Saudi. The reaction seems massively over the top. They don’t seem to have any sort of connection to the horrific regime.
Have to be seen to be doing something after all the faux outrage over the Newcastle owners , nobody would have batted an eyelid over this fixture if they didn’t own Newcastle .

Every time a f***ing stupid decision like this is made by the club or they fail to act in actually helping or listening to supporters raises question marks over KLD.

Tell you what, the kid would go way up in my estimation if he took some leadership and got this game called off.

The Dubai issue isn’t massive for me. The fact we’re allowing our club to facilitate more “look at the Saudis, they’re a nice lot” is though.

It’s facilitating sports washing.
So the lads that play for the team we're playing are all bad are they?
Who is profiting from this friendly between two professional football clubs?
No one. I doubt anyone is profiting, it's just a daft, meaningless friendly.

It’s a warm weather friendly that nobody outside of Sunderland will give a flying fuck about tbf.

It’s a stupid decision as it was always likely to provoke upset but I think it’s a bit unfair to accuse the club or a) profiteering or b) sportswashing.

“Faux outrage” it’s called having morals and not letting our club get whored around you spineless moron.

That’s the difference between us and your lot. Now fuck off to your own Saudi back slapping forum.

I think you would have a point if we were inviting them over here and making a song dance of it. However, this will be a training session, with hardly anyone there. It's not a great idea, but a bit perspective is needed.
