Viktor Goykes (signing suggestion)

If he's going to cost money he won't be coming here.
Whereas there’s not a cat in hells chance we’ll be signing this lad who would be around £10m the idea that money = SAFC not signing a player is clearly bollocks given we had the second highest net spend in the league in the summer. Even that was behind Norwich who are still receiving parachute payments.

I'm ganna stick my tin hat on here, where we're currently at and the path we're on I don't think we'll see players like him opting to come to Sunderland vs staying at Coventry. It isn't that I think they're better than us in a footballing sense but they're trying to progress now. Our focus is on becoming stable in the championship. We're biding our time to progress over time and playing through the younger lads fits perfectly into that.

I want to point out i'm not digging out anyone here. It's just the reality.
Are you saying we are being run like a CornerShop ? 😃

Awful play on words aside, would be an awesome signing or replacement if we landed a load of cash for Stewart to cover it, but ultimately we are not going to pay him lower end prem wages, or even those teams relegated with parachutes.

Sure everton were offering fouble figures on deadline day. Way out of our league. If Ross Stewart goes id like to see us go in for Clarke Harris (Peterborough). Scores goals and got 14 in the championship last season. Would get the service from clarke, roberts etc.

It's not about spending money, it's about how much we'd need to spend on him. Mowbray has also said in interviews that we're not exactly offering brilliant wages for the division too. Even if he's on a divisional average at Coventry we'd not be offering him the chance to earn a load more.

No chance we offered wyke that much. Certain we offered him less than what he was on. Awful striker
I don’t disagree, he was an absolute cart horse. I was over the moon when Wigan offered more than us.

I’m just repeating what I remembered hearing at the time. A cursory google though doesn’t seem to corroborate my recollection, so perhaps I read it on here, or perhaps I’m turning senile. It is well documented that we made an offer to him though.

Either way, I’m glad we were out bid and he buggered off!

Maybe he is out of our budget but would be a real statement of intent

If true that's a concern imo. As you need players who know the lge to progress we can't rely on finding untested rough diamonds ....

If the model is aimed at those like Brentford then the idea was largely signing players under 25 whose value could improve, not constantly pulling rabbits out of hats.

To be honest Michut could end up costing a few quid and Clarke will too and some of the other young lads have cost significant amounts given their age/experience levels.

Is he good enough for the PL though? Possibly get into a team that's battling relegation I suppose, but I see him as a top Championship player, unsure if he'll get much better.

Brighton didn't fancy him and he failed to score a goal when he was on loan at Swansea, granted he's only 24 and still has lots of time to develop and improve.
I work with a few Coventry fans and they don’t seem to rate him that highly as he misses an absolute ton of chances apparently.

They can't be Coventry fans because one quick glance at their forum shows they all rate him ridiculously highly.
They go to most games so I assume they’re fans. They don’t think he’s shite but they do think he misses way too many chances to become a top striker. Looking at Infogol it does seem to back that up somewhat, of the players to have scored 9 this season both him and McBurnie have taken more shots than the others and McBurnie is known to be wasteful.

Maybe they’ll have changed their mind now they’re on a ridiculous run of form.
