Are we destined just to be a yoyo club

My 1st game was 1972 and we’ve been a yo yo club all of that time. There was a period where we had an amazing stat that for 16 seasons, the final game of the season decided which division we would play in the next season. Our natural place in the order during my lifetime has been top group of the 2nd tier and bottom group of the top tier with a few enjoyable exceptions.

Yep. In lieu of any takeovers Everton, who just wont go and perhaps Villa now aside, everyone outside the current top 7 is a yo-yo club in waiting an liable over time since its a shut out, to eventually get relegated again. Everyone else basically already is, West Ham to Burnley, Sheffield United to Bournemouth.

We have been a yo-yo club for as long as I have supported Sunderland and it is quite possible we will continue to fluctuate between the Premier and Championship in the near future.

But I will say confidence that we will be promoted before we are relegated again.

I think the OP meant League One and the Championship.

Yeah I did
Good for you. Aim low and you'll always be in a mindset of misery. Can't wait for your post/thread later on if we get beat. Great stuff.
The fact you've clarified your doom and gloom only comes from this season speaks volumes. There's been posts from people stating their support of the club going back to the 70s underlines you're a miserable sod.

And you liked my post. You are a mag taking the piss aren't you? Have to be
Yeah I did
Can't hear you? Where you at?

I remember the second seventh place finish in the Premier League under Peter Reid was not greeted with unbridled admiration.
Because we were already obviously going backwards for reasons that were plain to loads on here and elsewhere though seemingly unseen by Reid or the regime in power at the time.
Myself and two long term mlf marras each hoyed a tenner on us to go down as soon as the coupons came out the following summer to pay for the following seasons ST in the championship. We finished one place off it iirc.
Went down the next.
It might not take longer than we want, this season isn't even half way through yet, a few wins and you climb quickly up the table.
We will finish in PO positions t least this season.

I'm not sure on that, but I hope you are right

I'm talking about championship and league one m8

Why would I love it like ? The past few years have been the lowlife of my 40 years of going pal . Never seen it or felt so bad that's why I'm clinging onto the hope we might be back one day.
I'd argue I've enjoyed watching the likes of o'nien, maguire, Maja, Roberts and a whole host of other league one players than than the wage vampires who got us to that low in the first place.

A Wembley win was possibly the most enjoyable weekend I've had as a sunderland (even if it was out of relief)

This current lot have some fabulous attributes to kick on a level higher, albeit not the finished article just yet.

Some of the noises coming out the club this week and even Mowbray himself seems to suggest we just gonna be a club that has its limits . Think the premier league days are a thing of the past unless we get some investment .
Saddens me how we have become

Ha’way mods sick of this mag ****

Gotta start someone to establish yourself in the Prem, we were very lucky to stay for as long as we did let's be honest, some great memories of our escapes but the rest of those seasons were horrible to sit through.

I'd take a few relegation from the Prem if it means we built upon each one with the huge money we got each season as oppose to bring a Norwich who go up with seemingly the intention to go back down.

Said on another thread somewhere, we should have a f***ing moron test before people are allowed to post threads.

This one proves it.
Being saying if for years.
Two sets of random 20 questions from a pool of 100. SAFC related and general football related with results shown and number of attempts taken to pass visible. Higher mark reqd in safc section to be labelled as safc fan. Otherwise passers are labelled as general fan or the team which they self identify with. It’d improve the discourse quality on here no end.
😁
Probably thought that cos you talk about stuff from a similar era to what I can relate to.
Wasn't being funny,..............honest 🤥

Anyway, I can't really talk, I'm coming up to 61 😨
Good age for a male smoggy that. What with the air quality down there. Though taking the sea air at Seaham has probably expanded your lifespan a bit.TBH I hope youre around here for a lot longer now that you seem to have toned down your quiet piss taking a bit.
In fact I hope both of us are around long enough to see a truce and us becoming United against the magedia and seeing Mogga and Grant lead us both to regular finishing positions above the head choppers when their fascist leaders have bought Liverpool. The tears will be a sight to behold.

Not WHU these days. They’re now at the heady heights of Villa and Everton.
Which is if everyone of ”the process” key holders dreams come true then that’s where we will be. Once there as long as we try to go deep into the Cups I’ll be more than happy.
I’ve long said we’re one of the 12 biggest (by fan attendance) clubs in England. Only Sheff Wed of those outside of the PL are come anywhere near us.

No. Hopefully this is a long term plan to take us up into the Premier league, then eventually a top half team. 3 Seasons to get out of the championship, then two seasons to consolidate in the top flight.
