What can you remember about your Grandparent's house?

Cheese sarnies.
Coal fire.
Granda smoking 40 superkings a day.
Playing on my NES with my nana before granda got up. (and getting beat by her on some volleyball game.)
Watching ITV boxing on the settee.
Falling asleep before Benn - Eubank.

Rose Cottage in a tiny little village called Walton in Cumbria. This was after they left the village pub that had as good a view of any pub you’ll ever find.

Coal fire
Horse manure
Cows
Fields
Rivers
Chopping wood
A playbus
Little to no traffic
Kendal mint cake
Countdown
Home made cakes, shortbread, scotch pancakes
Massive slides and swings and a fast as fuck roundabout in the park
Chickens

It was class and I’d buy a holiday home there one day. Proper tranquil.

Saturday night TV Gladiators, Blind date etc (Slept at my nanas nearly every Saturday from being a toddler until I was 16).
Sunday dinners.
Tents made out of kitchen stools and a sleeping bag.
Getting the projector and the slides out about once a year to look at old photos.
Showers (Only had a bath at home so loved a shower on a Saturday night).
Watching ITV Boxing when the likes of Naz, Benn and Eubank were on there.

Absolutely nothing. Dad was well in his 40s when I was born and his parents were dead. Only my Mam's Dad was around, can't recall going to his house but he looked after me before I started school at times, and he wasn't a pleasant fella. I remember he accidently broke an ornament and told Mam I'd done it. Other similar bits and pieces too. No good memories, sadly.

Panackelty which always had bacon, corned beef, sausages and black pudding in it
Broth and dumplings
Some kind of suet horseshoe thing with tuna in and cheese on top (never seen a recipe for this - think it was out of a Bero book)
Bullseye
McGiver
Sitting next to a coal fire with half me face burning but not wanting to move away

Every Sunday morning - bath, clean clothes and a 2 mile walk to the grandparents. My brother and I were not allowed to sit down and we stood there in silence. Never asked how we were or about school. They lived with my dad's brother (I think the Grandparents bought the house tbf). We were considered poor relations. Grandma went to her bed after a few months - could not get into the kitchen because of my Aunty. She was bedridden for years and we had to sit in the bedroom with her. It was bloody awful. Ironically the Uncle was the last to go and they had no children so the house etc was sold and all my dad's kids (or their kids) got a share of it. I did not want mine so I gave it away to my family.
