CC :: Durham v Sussex

Well it's great to see positive intent from Durham. That would never have happened earlier this season with the declaration. Scored runs quick and we are going all out to win the game which is brilliant to see. Some positive signs.
These umpires are awful
Friend of mine at the game has been keeping me up to date and has said numerous times he's bemused with the decision making. Nothing new really, standard is appalling

Imagine what the response would be if we ever did that. If we employed a headcoach who specialised in white ball, for example…
Not sure what the priorities are at Sussex this year but last season a quarter of their players budget was taken up by players only available for t20. Their regulars where nit happy.

It didn’t take long did it. There’s a new energy on the field. It’s almost like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.
Yup. Early days but it's very promising to see a positive declaration today after the shambles/reluctance earlier this season. Hopefully the lads can kick in but friend said today the players looked far more relaxed & positive

Fully agree. Sussex have been well and truly done in that last passage of play there. I questioned them going off for light initially because for me the light was more than acceptable. However when Sussex came out to bat I felt it was as bad, if not a little worse, than when they first came off.

Then the two lbw decisions given against Alsop and Clark were ridiculous unfortunately. I moan plenty when we get bad’uns, so it’s only right I point out that these two were absolute shockers. The first one is going over off, the second one is missing leg comfortably. The only defence of the second one was that the ball kept very low, so perhaps the umpire felt it was closer than it actually was.

Shortly after that Potts dug one in short and the umpires shit themselves and decided enough was enough. Haines appeared to be very aggrieved with the umpires that it took someone nearly getting their head knocked off for play to be halted and in fairness I have every sympathy for him.

I worried in that final passage of play that perhaps the umpires thought that by giving Durham a chance of a few wickets tonight, it’ll hasten the end come tomorrow and they’ll get an early finish. Like down at Essex at the start of last season when we were on the receiving end however, I feel like Sussex have been well and truly f**ked over tonight.

Anyway, with regards to the game, again, sympathy with Sussex because everything has gone wrong for them really since the toss. Conditions for batting were difficult yesterday when they began their first innings and they’ve been difficult today when they’ve started their second. In between, they’ve seen some periods of clear and sunny weather for our batting  and lost one of their main bowlers to a freak but nasty looking injury. I’m sure they’re feeling like what could go wrong has gone wrong but it’s our lads’ job to do their bit right and capitalise as we have done. Could’ve had four lads in triple figures, but in the end we’ve had none go beyond a hundred

Benjamin has been impressive with both bat and gloves, I agree with @The Rat‘s sentiments regarding trying to make his move a permanent one - but I’ve got no idea what it would take financially and in terms of promises of game time or even if Warwickshire would allow it given what their plans are/could be for him.

Won’t be down tomorrow, but I know there is a bit of rain forecast. Selfishly I’d like to see it go into Friday because I can get down to the ground and it’d be nice to sign of the season down at CLS on a day where the lads win a game.

Aye, seems a strange one, but despite the hammering they’re taking here I’ve been impressed by a few of their lads and they’re ridiculously young for a First Class side. It’ll be interesting to see where they could be in five years time if they can keep the group together.

Great to see Durham ending the season in the form I had hoped to see throughout 2022. Was only able to catch the morning session via the stream as my 87 year old father has finally returned home today after nine weeks in hospital. Don't know if I'll get to what looks like being the final day at the Riverside tomorrow but hopefully will see some of the chaps (and chapesses) from the forum at the ground next season.

Haway Durham!!

I informed one of the chapesses that you may be down tomorra, she's off all day so will be there, her and Joe were plotting a dog sitting arrangement, presumably in the same area you spied her in yesterday as that's where we sat this afternoon. But don't hold us to that, they may be sat with chris in his little corner spot.

Anyway I trust an eagle eyes chap like yourself will find them if you do get down, if not then I look forward to next season!

Hope all went well with your fatha and he entertained you with tales of Gravesend and watching the lads back in the days before life was in colour.

That must be the best overall days play in a CC game I’ve seen this season. Pushed for runs from the off and then stuck them back in and it all paid off. Sussex have had their problems but that’s unfortunate and the way things go, I was impressed at how they kept plugging away though and their ground fielding was very good throughout. Hopefully we can push on and secure a good win.
