Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

Neil wanted to sign all jobs for the boys types no re sale value the usual we need experience shit
You Just put experience and shit together. That is simply naiive. I support broadly our recruitment policy but the manager/head coach has to have some discretion when there are obvious weaknesses. Dan Neil is busting a gut but still lacks strength in the middle of the park.

Every manager gets our support to be fair, We have initially backed Grayson, Parkinson and all the other useless clowns we have employed.

I’m not entirely against Mowbray, but its disapointing that thats all we can get. It stinks of just writing a season off 5 games in and shows nothing towards progression and improvement. Its piss poor from the club IMO.
Yeah completely get that, just think losing a manager 5 games into a season is pretty much as bad as it gets. Not to say we should be writing it off, which I don’t think we are, but baldy has dealt us the roughest of hands.

It appears to me that there is a division between some fans on expectations for the club and that shows in the manager discussion.

On one side fans who are happy to consolidate this year, small steps forward while building the squad and club

On the other fans who think we should be aiming higher at maybe play offs and a promotion push next season.

The consolidate side see Mowbray as the sensible appointment that fits the backroom system and their expectations.

The play off / challenge side see him as too steady, not dynamic enough to provide that push and move us on.

Me I'm on the consolidate side, I've seen too many false dawn's, too many journeyman players, too much waste and a club built on sand and the depth of the owners pockets. The consolidate way I believe will eventually lead to the top division without requiring the owner to fund it

Well let the squad prove you wrong. They are capable of that.
And what aspirations are realistic?
We've just been through the worst 4 years in our history.
A talented, but thin newly promoted side.
If we are there or there abouts next April is that not a successful season or do you expect us to storm the division and go on to be Champions league in about 2 years time?
Patience amigo.
Consolidation is the achievable goal.
Anything else is bunce.
The number 1 aim now is survival. It would have been anyway with Neil.

We may have had an outside chance of a top half finish with Neil but anything more would have been unexpected.

Are they ignoring

Simms
Ballard
Alese
Clarke signing permanently
Roberts signing permanently
Bass
The Costa Rican kid
Broadheads arse dropping as he wouldn’t play despite being agreed

Etc

Who do they want us to sign?

We’ve got the third highest spending in the league, but aye nee ambition
Who says we have the third highest spending ?

I think the people having a go at the impending appointment of Mowbray are either still not over Neil leaving or letting Mowbray’s Boro association or alleged dour persona affect their judgement.

Given the timing of Neil’s departure the club were completely blind sided and no doubt well aware of the justified criticism they received after taking so long to replace Johnson, set about finding a suitably qualified replacement quickly.

Mowbray ticks pretty much every box and is available to start work today.

I‘ve been very critical of the club previously where I feel it’s justified but I think they’ve handled this pretty well since Neil dumped them in it.

As ever results will be the litmus test.

Sensible post 👍
Let's hope come Thursday there has been alot of work done to set us up for the season.

I don't want to hear we are keeping ourselves for the January window.

Good post mate, that's more or less the way I see it. Succinctly put. Have a like.

It's understandable for people not to be loving the appointment, I was dead against it on Saturday like but as you say I think it's down to the emotions running high and his errrm history with us.

However take a step back and he starts to tick alot of the boxes, many me included were pissed with the fanning about the club did last time so can't moan when they've identified him and got him in a few days, he might not be the right appointment but let's hope he is.

Certainly don't have expectations of us getting promoted within the next couple of seasons but I really hoped that the days of us hiring whichever journeyman manager happened to be available at any given time were over.

But surely you can see how he fits well to what we’re trying to achieve here with his reputation for developing young players and a willingness to carry a squad full of them?

It’s quite clearly not simply that he is available and knows Harvey, there’s far more rationale than that and he has decent synergies with the club’s core strategy.

I had my heart set on Manning so I’m not exactly delighted but I think it’s unfair to suggest this is only an appointment of convenience.

This perfectly sums up my thoughts towards it.
