Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

Speakman is facing huge questions now... nothing about mowbray ndicates progress .. this is a backwards step that looks like a panicking, what data support him. He's a mid to lower level championship nahager who over achieved last season

I’m not excited about this appointment but his 40% win rate in the Championship over about 600 odd games) his 8th last season + previous promotion from the Championship, stats that show he plays a system that would suit the players we have in the squad, that also includes a preference for youth, would be the base line data at a guess. Sure it goes far more in depth than that though.

Arguably not, if we were talking about both as new appointments but we're not. Neil had the squad, the results, momentum, feel good factor, and fans all going for him and on his side after last season. Mowbray has none of it, he has an immediately split fan base, a promotion about 15 years ago, and a history of mid table nothingness. Personally, I have aspirations higher than that, and I believe the squad to be better than that.
Well let the squad prove you wrong. They are capable of that.
And what aspirations are realistic?
We've just been through the worst 4 years in our history.
A talented, but thin newly promoted side.
If we are there or there abouts next April is that not a successful season or do you expect us to storm the division and go on to be Champions league in about 2 years time?
Patience amigo.
Consolidation is the achievable goal.
Anything else is bunce.

According to the ‘model’ we’re a forward thinking club seeking a new direction. So we appoint a 58 yo with 2 (?) promotions in 25 years. He advocates boring defensive football and was an unmitigated disaster at the 1 job he’s had at a big club (Celtic). He’s been sacked more times than I care to remember but lets put him in charge of a Championship club pulling in @40k at home. You couldn’t make it up. Would people be happy with Bruce coming back?

No. Although given he's at an established Championship club with an eye on promotion and we're a newly promoted side looking to gain a foothold I doubt he'd even look at us.

Were you?

"We’ve had a canny start but all of a sudden we should be play off contenders, with our league one plus one or two signings squad."

My point was the club have shown ambition by giving him the chance to bring in players (if you want to believe he has had no say in that then carry on).

The fact is apart from Ballard and Simms none of those signings have been good enough to break into the first team, do you honestly think the club said well Alex let’s just bring any twat in to increase numbers?

I think the league is poor, but people are over estimating us aswell. We conceded for too many and tire after 70 mins. We aren't close to a top 6 team.
Coming up I had no idea how we'd fare, but having seen a few games I think our starting 11 will give everybody a game. Depth is a big worry though, look at central midfield, after Evans and Neil the drop off is massive.

He doesn’t play boring football and we don’t get crowds of 40k plus apart from play off semis etc but carry on.

Who's saying just bring anyone in?

Genuine question then, who do you want us to
sign in the next three days to show our “ambition”

Mint. The clubs ambition confirmed.
Im with you! Fuck this shit! … honestly!
Steady championship pair of hands, track suit manager and in over 20 years no fan, of his managed clubs and he's worked with problem clubs, have a bad thing to say about him. Could do a hell of a lot worse.
Fuck me … he’s f***ing shite 40% win percentage let’s all wank over that … steady pair of hands blah blah … we’ve seen and been through so much shit the last 10 years.

It’s like the club is bi polar … I’d rather they take their time and look at all possible options.

P.s if I’m proven wrong I’ll gladly do something outrageous, but this seems total wank to me honestly

Plus as suggested yesterday, he could well be a stopgap appointment to give time to sort out somebody younger/up and coming.

Hardly an inspiring signing, and I wish we would’ve shown some genuine ambition with either a PL level manager (Similar to how we got AN in tier 3 when he’s a tier 2 manager) or a young, upcoming bright thinking coach - BUT I felt the same about AN and I think he was a success (the three-headed, serpent bastard).

All we can do is back the clubs choice. The 8th place finish last season and the use of youth are the strongest, positive indicators.

I think the club probably want someone reliable and, for want of a better word, dull for a while. Johnson was polarizing and his winning runs/losing streaks unpredictable. Neil was excellent but by all accounts always haggling for more cash and in the end an untrustworthy snake.

If Mowbray can settle us into a good rhythm we can be fairly assured he won’t be wrangling to get away. If Stewart can stay fit, which Brereton Diaz didn’t, he may even go a couple of spots better than 8th 😉

Good post this. Solid as big Tony himself

Every manager has been sacked.

He plays attacking football.

He left Blackburn after his contract expired and he was the longest serving manager in the championship at the time. He got them promoted from L1 and had them within a few points of the playoffs.

I mean, you literally couldn’t have gotten more things wrong

He’s been sacked 3 times in his 18 year career. Alex Neil was sacked twice in his 8 year career before he joined us.

Hibs - wasn’t sacked - moved to West Brom
WBA - wasn’t sacked, moved to Celtic
Celtic - sacked
Middlesbrough- sacked
Coventry - “resigned”, although probably sacked
Blackburn - wasn’t sacked, took them to their highest league position since 2014 and left at the end of his contract
