Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

We didn't appoint Alex Neil in this division though. In Neil, we appointed a decent championship manager while we were stuck at the level below. The performancea and promotion obviously earned him the good will going into this season.

To compare, we'd need to be appointing a decent Premier league manager. Not a championship plodder of a manager. I'd much rather take a punt on a young up and coming coach to match the squad than a man who's peak should be our minimum. There's no reason at all this squad can't be in or around the playoffs. Mowbray will have us settled into his usual mid table and expect us to be thrilled about it.

But he had Blackburn challenging for the play offs last season.

I'm not a fan of Mowbray, who has a similar success/failure record to AN, if over a longer timespan.

As has been said, its a bit uninspiring, but we need to get behind the club more than ever as we need to stay in this league and the players need to know we are behind the club, manager and team.

We could take a risk with a younger person, but I think that might be better when we've re-established ourselves, personally.

Lets see where we go. HTL, FTM.

Not strictly true. Owen Coyle takes the main blame for that. TM was brought in to save us but most of the damage was already done. He had us playing mid table form in his time here and we went down on a record points total and on goal difference. Then brought us straight back up.

Ouch.

My point is that those clubs all thought TM was worthy of being their manager, yet the vast majority of posts on this thread make it quite clear that he's not worthy of your club.

Spin it how you want - the arrogance and attitude towards the bloke is shocking.
Personal insults too - bet all that changes if he has you up towards the top of the league.
I agree, whatever your views, personal insults are out of order. Like I said most SAFC fans will give him a chance. We have little choice.

Did mint with Blackburn like they finished eight last season.

West Ham have looked class the past few seasons and qualified for Europe so let's get Moyes back in. Class manager.

There hasn’t been a great deal of dignity shown by Mowbray towards SAFC in the past mind.

I think this appointment is poor. Lots of others do for football reasons too (some will get nastily personal which is obviously unreasonable). We’re being sold a vision about modernity, youth, development and long termism. Mowbray has quite a dour persona, has not spoken kindly of the club in the past, has a pretty mediocre record and has not been liked as a manager by most clubs he’s been at (despite him being loved as a player at Boro and Celtic).

Does the appointment feel brave and optimistic? Does it feel ambitious? Does is it feel fresh and well researched? Does it feel as though it’s imaginative? Does it seem well researched and data driven? To me, the answer is no to all of the above and that’s a bit of a let down give what the supposed vision of the club is. Mowbray is local, available, and friends with Harvey. It feels every bit like an appointment the old regime would have made.

It feels very flat to me
I can only remember one quote from over 15 years ago about WBA playing better football.

I’d like our main goal to be winning games and competing to get into the top division.
As would I, but realistically we can only do that if we develop the players we have so that they become PL level or we can sell them in order to buy PL level players, in which case Mowbray fits our goals.

It really isn't but with him hanging around means we haven't looked anywhere at all. Amateurish.
This is another iasue for me. He's mates with our head of recruitment, out of work, presumably has a house locally and has been attending our games. If anything smacks of being done on bare minimum spend.
There's a whole world to have a look at where it seems we haven't looked beyond our immediate circle.

As long as its til the end of the season, I personally will be fairly happy. Anything beyond then I will be questiining the long-term ambition.

I would turn it round and suggest its your regarding as him being a Boro "Legend" that has you coming-up with this nonsense. You regularly wade in with the notion of all Sunderland fans being arrogant and regarding purselves as a massive club.
I would suggest its you with the problem regarding your own club.
I wanted a younger manager
