Maybe not managers but plenty of players have went onto bigger and better, Jordan Henderson won the champions league and Prem ffs.
Plenty have left for bigger but how many have actually achieved at bigger clubs. Think the earliest I remember was Chris Turner leaving for Man Utd but he never nailed down the No1 shirt there

I think he might then be the first (after Stoke). If we can't hold onto Alex Neill then really what ambition do we have?????
The lad from Costa Rica must be wondering what am I doing here if AN does a runner to mighty Stoke. If Dodds and Proctor are in the dugout tomorrow then I can't see KLD or Speakman risking an appearance somehow. What a shambles of a club. 30000 season ticket holders conned again, never mind the players, they get paid. To say we are a laughing stock is an understatement if the hierarchy don't put a stop to this asap.

Agreed I would be putting in an SOS to any manager out there. If they cant get anyone either give it to the tea lady or hold a fans raffle rather than them two.....I don't even think we have any senior players who could lead the team.

I thought there was no chance he'd go, but for some reason behind closed doors the club has effed it again.....or allowed it to be effed...so here we are back on the managerial merry-go-round with a long hard season ahead. Let's hope for someone in quick (unlke when an came) that can work with what's there.
There's something that isn't right at the place ffs.

21st May 2022. One of the best days I've ever had. Probably one of the best supports and atmospheres the new Wembley has seen.

44k there for the Semi v Sheff Wed for another memorable night for all of us.

Didn't mean a thing to Neil though. Doesn't mean anything to the players or the directors either if truth be told. They'd all be off as soon as something else comes up.

Us fans are just pawns in a bigger game. We give, they take. We care about them, they couldn't care less about us.

I'm totally sickened by this. When Neil was appointed I said on here he would take us up when opinion on him was pretty split. He's an excellent manager and I thought he'd be here for the long haul. Instead he's jumping ship at the first opportunity, and for Stoke. One of the most pointless and boring clubs, in one of the most pointless and boring areas of the country.

To rub salt in the wounds it comes on the day them up the road pull out £60m for a new striker. It's like there's someone up there just permanently tormenting us. Honestly I'm 54 years old and I'm getting pig sick of it all. As soon as something good seems to be happening there's another kick in the bollocks to come along straight away.

I'd agree with you that this is terrible timing.

Why not? Fuck him
Conflicting emotions but coming round to this, really dropping us in it less than 24 hours before a televised home game....we have a young, hungry, capable squad that he is more than getting a tune out of.

Again, however, if Stoke have asked permission then by definition we have the right to say no.

Whatever happens I really hope that AN opens up on the exact reasons why it has come to this and what is happening inside the club so we know one way or the other.

Unfortunately that's the last thing that will ever happen there will be a non-disclosure clause in any every witten agreement he made with the club..

He can get fucked. The timing is minging - can’t have respect for someone leaving this close to a match.

The club and our support continues regardless of personnel in all areas. Get in tomorrow and back them.
and so close to the end of the transfer window where he himself said we were short. Who is going to come now?

All a bit premature this type of post.

Saturday at 12.35 whilst watching Proctor and Dodds using their 50/50 and ask Jeremy lifelines on what to do next is the time for this kind of post.

You've got to wonder. Could Neil have over stepped the mark with KLD in wanting additional players? There has to be more to this than money surely. A move to a bigger club with a greater fanbase and a better opportunity for success I could understand but Stoke?

I'm in China but feel sorry for all season ticket holders and the amazing Sunderland supporters in general. Simply the best and it breaks my heart for all the people who travel, buy merchandise and give everything for this club. It makes me so angry that this brilliant fanbase is constantly shit on and abused. All you supporters have my total respect. You are amazing. Just the greatest.

Who said he’s going to stoke? Club’s got to let him speak to them, doesn’t mean he’s going. I’m reserving judgement until he goes.
Calm the fück down until we know something.

It says a lot about AN if he goes mind

More money but a lesser stage and if he really back himself then short term gain wouldn’t be his aim.

That said, perhaps it’s a shitshow behind the scenes
It might not be about the money although it probably plays a huge part in it.
IF behind the scenes AN doesn't get on with Speakman or the board then why wouldn't he fcuk off elsewhere.
Most of us would do the same if we were so unhappy at work.
