AN Press conference - CANCELLED

This is what happens on here. Stuff that hasn’t been said becomes fact. Nowhere have i suggested it’s all going wrong behind the scenes.

My initial post said it’s not ideal about the press conference delay given the noises (ie Neil’s comments Re transfers, the sharing of an article from Hunter who is hardly a clickbait reporter and Neil topping the bookies odds).

Let’s hope it is all to do with signings / outgoings. Even better would be a new contract to put this 12 month rolling contract issue to bed
FAir enough marra. I'm not one for Hunter all that much (edited the snippy post from earlier a bit). He's a nice fella but not all that much of a thinker when it comes to football. The article on the contract was pretty basic 'longer equals better' conventional stuff from a reporter who doesn't really get modern football all that much (as evidenced by his opinions when he makes podcast appearances). Certainly we could have done without the press conference delay today. However taken in isolation I really don't think the noises you mention are much in reality.

Neil's comments on transfers are indicative of frustration with the market as a whole. Throughout he has taken his share of the ownership of the issue - and has been at great pains to protect the system that is in place at SAFC. I don't know why we would put so much weight on the 'break down the door' comment (which to my mind was clearly an off-the-cuff amusing response to a leading question) and play down the numerous times he has explained how it works, advocates for this work, taken ownership of the mechanism as a whole, placed the blame on the market itself etc. If we're stacking one side up against another there is far more evidence for him being happy with how the club is working than the contrary. Hunter is a plodder. He's not in any danger of making the jump to national levels (like Chris Young did. or as I think Phil Smith eventually will). I happily read his stuff, but am equally as happy to dismiss his opinion pieces. Bookies odds stuff? That has all come from ITK chatter on the Stoke message board. Wilder, Neil and Mark Robins all came rocketing in out of nowhere on the back of a tip off from someone who supposedly knows stuff. Given how betting markets are so volatile - particularly in the early stages - I'm not gonna worry too much about that. He'll go flying down on the back of the press conference delay now, too. Doesn't mean much - other than bookies protecting themselves in the numbers game.

Neil probably isn't leaving. But i don't think the 12 month rolling contract serves it's initial purpose now. When he was appointed, it suited both parties as it was an easy get out clause for AN should things not have gone well. We're now in the championship and looking to kick on. AN is a proven top end championship/ lower PL manager, we need to now back him with a 3/4 year deal.

Just pointing out the odds mean nowt sometimes. Poyet went in to 1/20. Betting was suspended on Keane.

Bookies react quickly to bets being placed to minimise losses. If you whack £100 on Hughton to Stoke, his odds will be slashed.

Poyet and Keane were close to joining though. Is Neil close to joining Stoke?

Neil was one of the favourites. The presser is delayed. Punters put 2 and 2 together and pile in. The odds then drop because of the influx of bets.

I dont think much will have changed since last night based on the bookies info alone

Sorry, I'm no expert on it, was he not the chap who was in charge of changing the style, bought a load of technical players on vastly inflated wages that started the decline?

After 5 years of improvement in terms of style, attacking intent, results and league placings, yes. Lost his way in the end like many can.

It just gets tiresome being a supporter of a club where you are pigeon holed with certain managers just because of the success of one man 14 years ago.

Other than it’s the contract he wants and always works with, demanding he signs a long term deal may do more harm than good
