NEPL 2022

The batters on the Ashington scorecard are now listed as “retired out”.

Apparently there’s been an appeal submitted to the league.

Will be interesting to see what the league do as a precedent had been set a few years ago when Burnopfield played Newcastle and the power play was implemented incorrectly. That game was ordered to be replayed.
Whoever has appealed to the league should be utterly embarrassed. Ashington could (probably will be if rules are enforced to the book) be punished for playing positive cricket.

I hadn't seen that scorecard change. Unless I'm mistaken, that would now mean the innings is complete with no declaration. I can't see a case for whomever has appealed.

The umpires wouldn't allow Ashington to declare as per the rules, so Ben Harmison retired all of his batsmen out, so officially they were all out. No rules broken as far as anyone could tell on the day.

Ashington tweeted declared after 35 overs, which was subsequently taken down and batters changed to retired out.

Guessing it may not have been that obvious to whoever is sat on their phone watching and updating Twitter.

Maybe a rule to change going forward if people are pi55ed off (no issue with it for me), but no rules or spirit was broken for me with this.

The game was actually delayed as one of the opposition had a car accident on the way there, and Ashington were fine with this. Swings and roundabouts.

Dragged myself over to Castle Eden to watch them against Ashington.
Ashington 26-5
54-6
Castle Eden win by 1 run. Tad controversial in my opinion but hey ho enjoyed that

Great win for us in the end, could of went either way
Ashington play Shotley Bridge last game of season
Yeah I thought near the end the lad parried the ball onto the boundary but nobody questioned it on the field and neither did the unpire. I was sat near an Ashington player and coach who had a saying to with one of the Castle Eden players which was amusing. Really enjoyed my afternoon and will be making more time to visit as it was a lovely ground. "Billy" is a very impressive bowler.

Glad you enjoyed it sounded like a good game. Bilawal Iqbal is some bowler to be fair.

Unfortunately my 2nds havent had a great season in Div 2 and are now relegated.

What's his background? He was head and shoulders above anyone and instantly you could tell he has something about him. Been promising myself for far too long to go and watch some local cricket and today I really enjoyed myself. It's a lovely little ground, nice setting as well, so I'll be making time to go more next year. Hopefully they can get promoted.

Come back stronger next year

Hopefully we do get promoted after last years farce, a very big step up for a club of our size if we do, but we've done alright considering 8 or 9 have played junior cricket at the club, and can't see that changing even if we do get promoted, but would be nice see the likes of South North etc down at the eden

Interesting to see Ashington 2nd xi fielding a couple of lads who played in the first team on Saturday, for their final today Vs CLS 2nd xi
Rules generally state that a player must have more 2nd team appearances in the season than 1st team to qualify for 2nd team cup ties. Therefore, although a player may have played yesterday, they can still be eligible.

1st XI captain getting married as well I believe so plenty of regulars either away/playing elsewhere over the weekend
