NEPL 2022

Anyone got any information on the Ashington game yesterday? According to the scores they declared after 35 overs, however, my understanding was that teams are not allowed to declare in the win lose format.

Ashington tweeted they had declared but have since deleted it, a league official commented they couldn't declare.
Could have huge implications for promotion as Castle Eden would be top and Shotley Bridge would obviously be much closer if Ashington hadn’t managed a positive result with all the rain about yesterday.

Mccafferty the Ashington captain declared to force a result before the weather. Two umpires officiating clearly allowed it to happen though I don’t think is allowed in the rules (be interesting whether actually in writing in the league handbook or not).

Believe mccafferty is off abroad for his wedding this week so won’t be around to give any version of events. No doubt the league will let it slide and hope that come the end of the year their decision not to act hasn’t influenced final standings..

I can't see any logic for not allowing declarations in 50 over games,Win ,Draw or Lose scenarios. Its a league game not a cup tie and surely plausible with the weather conditions yesterday afternoon.Bowling sides could be given the full quota of bowling points.Far different from the days of Brian Rose etc 🤔

Yeah exactly if they have declared purely to set up a win to try and close the gap at the top.

It is a positive more to win a game and nothing wrong with it imo.

Far better than to give away your last 5 wkts farcically by leaving the stumps free, giving catching practice or hitting the wickets deliberately
Yeah, it’s about common sense, everyone involved will obviously know cricket.

And if they have done it for the right reason as as a positive move then surely that should be fine.

Some good games next weekend in Div 1
Castle Eden v Ashington
Shotley Bridge v Philadelphia
Last game of the season
Shotley Bridge v Ashington

Washington seem to have their batting in order just in time for the run in. 324 for 5 is a decent total and the win leaves them 39 points clear of Blaydon with three games left. Three wins and a draw in the last 5 games has seen them move from bottom to almost safe. Almost like Sunderland survival runs a few years back.

My league plays 50 overs-a-side and sides can declare. What is the problem?
That it's not the rules In the current NEPL format. It's basically List A rules, so bat your overs or get bowled out.

Sunderland v Burnopfield massive in the Prem too.

It's not a declaration as the opposition don't get the unused overs, it's more a forfeit of some overs which I can't really see a problem with.

If that is the case, could the unused batsmen officially be "retired out"?

The batters on the Ashington scorecard are now listed as “retired out”.

Apparently there’s been an appeal submitted to the league.

Will be interesting to see what the league do as a precedent had been set a few years ago when Burnopfield played Newcastle and the power play was implemented incorrectly. That game was ordered to be replayed.
